As Rob posted in his "something to ponder" thread, which implied racism as a possible reason for peoples views of the candidates, let's ponder this.

WHAT IF:

The voter demographic results of the election were switched around?

.....think about it. Would the country's collective point of view be different? Could racism be the culprit?

Ponder the following:

What if 95 percent of white voters had voted for McCain?

What if 55 percent of black voters had voted for Obama?

Would there would be screams of protest declaring racism? Would people would be screaming whites voted based solely on color, while the black vote was based on the issues?

I can honestly say I voted for McCain based not on skin color, but because I disagreed with many of Obama's positions, most notably the tax issue as it relates to personal income as well as corporate tax breaks. If his proposals were more believable, he would have probably gotten my vote. Just where IS all the tax/spend money going to come from to satisfy all of his promises? But that is water under the bridge now.

It's too bad the same reason for choosing who to vote for can't be said for some, if not many who supported Obama.

I heard a black co-worker say to a white co-worker yesterday afternoon, "After tonight, we're going to be in control". Doesn't mean he meant black vs white, it could have meant Democrat vs Republican, but having worked with this man for 15+ years, I'm confident I know just what he meant.

Then, after reading the experiences of others here who have heard first-hand the reaction to the Obama victory, with references to "whitey" as examples, along with the true demographic voting patterns, I believe it isn't a stretch to say the racist vote was heavier on the black side. The numbers don't lie.

After all is said and done, regardless of who our next president would have been, they were in a world of sh*t and would be hard pressed to live up to even half of what they promised. I truly believe there are going to be a lot of disappointed people a couple of years from now when they are still stuck in the same rut they are in now. They are under the impression, foolish as it may be, that government will bail them out of hard times, that all will be good. I hope I'm wrong.

Time will tell.

If you have such strong convictions and faith in what you believe, then why not post under your actual screen name and stop being a poser?

Sooth,
You've made some valid points here. I had a co-worker say to me directly that if Obama wins, the blacks were taking over our country. I thought she was kidding at first, but I was wrong. Amazing how "people" can be so small minded no matter what their color, etc.

I voted for Obama and I stand by that vote for better or worse. He has his hands full and I'm not sure 4 yrs is long enough.

Hey Soothy.........

This is history for us all and you cannot forget what it means to all black americans. The only racist issues I fear come from ignorant assed white people.

Soothy, the world may be different where you are, but I can tell you...I live in the rural South, and racism still lingers in this country.

Whether or not you based your vote on racist views...we'll never know. That's up to you and your conscience to decide. But I can tell you that many people DID vote for McCain based on the fact that they couldn't stand the thought of having an African-American man in the White House. And they called it something else. They couldn't call it "pro-life", and they couldn't call it "anti-Christian" (though they tried based on a bigoted view of Obama's name)...so they called it "anti-small business, tax-and-spend, and inexperience".

I think it would be a good time for you to bury this screenname and quit talking about politics.
The election is over. McCain was soundly defeated. You get no more points from the McCain campaign for your posts here or anywhere else.

I never implied or said racism didn't exist. My point is it DOES EXIST not just on one side but BOTH SIDES. I just don't appreciate the side I choose to support being labeled racist, as if it doesn't exist on the other side too.

Absolutely!

My brother arrived at high school this morning to girls shouting "black power!" in the hallways. It absolutely exists on both sides.

Can I ask how I validated you?

I said what I said based on the "we are going to be in control" comment. That you know the guy who said it is how you based what you said.
For all you know, after all we have been through, maybe he did mean Democrats.

I was referring to people like skinheads, etc. The ones who make their hate no secret. The ones who like to just breed that hatred.
I, personally, don't want his whole presidency to be constantly about race. He has, from what I understand, talked about our country's issues many times. He is black, I am white----not an issue, thanks.

How? "This is history for us all and you cannot forget what it means to all black americans." I surely hope the vote wasn't based on history.

I'm not saying racism doesn't exist on both sides. However, Obama can't be held accountable for anyone's ignorance. Just like if McCain would've won and racist whites were shouting "white power", that wouldn't be in his control. Ignorance comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.

I do have one other comment to make, not sure how it will be taken, but here goes.....

All of that kind of stuff is said to hurt, to be taken offense, etc.

This does work both ways. My Mom told me that "trash" comes in any color. That is how I am about it all. Me talking bad about someone just because of their skin color would make me just as bad as anything I am saying.

I know that Obama is a grown up and plan to leave this issue up top him. It will be thrown out there and we will all be reminded that we are all Americans.

Give it up all ready. You are highlighting what the point is simply by highlighting it.
I wasn't going to burn my damn bra if a woman had been elected ya know!
You don't know either that EVERY black American voted for Obama anyway. Geeze.

Racism isn't exclusive to "ignorant assed white people".
