I really understand the disappointment in the rules being changed after all the entries were received. I know I'd feel very disappointed too, knowing all the angst and effort I'd made was for naught.

To play devil's advocate, maybe Ty & Co. received so many entries with similar sentiments they couldn't choose between them. If they went ahead and chose anyway, we could have people being upset that their entry was so like another and yet they weren't selected. [This assumes people would share their winning entries, yes, which is reasonable to assume.] Then it's possible people would think they weren't selected for personal reasons.

I think the rules for entry were misguided and it should've been random from the beginning. Another lesson learned for the fanclub.

Congrats to those who won. I'm sorry to those of you who didn't.

Frowner Many people on this board have a lot more to worry about than this contest. People i know personally and care about. They have a right to object to this situation and FC needs to know. Frowner

As far as I can so, all objectors have been very respectful on posting their dismay.

Anyone consider this "contest" was possibly an effort to have people re-up their FC membership? Roll Eyes

Considering it was suggested after Rob's management heard that a huge majority of his "real fans" wouldn't be attending due to the ticket price, I'd say NO. I'm sure Rob likes to know that some of his big fans are in the audience, when a majority of benefits and events he performs at usually have the audience filled with a bunch of "suits" and company employees who more times than not aren't too familiar with his music. Rob feeds off what his audience gives him, and if it's filled with a lot of big fans you can bet he's gonna get A LOT of positive feedback and energy to have him put a lot into his performance.

And I think the Bahamas show and especially the Foxwoods show had already brought a lot of people to re-up their fan club membership.

There may have been Daughtry fans who joined Rob's fanclub just to enter this contest. There was the option of joining and submitting an entry at the same time. They could have used 20 words of why they love Daughtry and plugged Rob's name in.

IMO if you aren't a current member or recent past member of the fanclub you shouldn't be allowed to sign up and enter contests at the same time.

Launching a fanclub contest in part to gain fan club members is good marketing, imo.

Yes, but who's to say whether you are or aren't a fan based on whether or not you join a fan club...and at what time do you become a real fan?

And does it mean you're a bigger fan if you post on a board, have your photo taken with Rob, or send him a message every day? I don't really know.

Just posing the question--I'm not beating on you or anything. It just seems like, based on the amount of whining on this board, there are a lot of people who must have really felt entitled to free tickets to the fundraiser.

Promoting a fanclub contest in which people are told their entries will be judged, then changing the rules to a random drawing, is deceitful if the contest is used in some way to gain more club members. It is wrong. IF that is part of what the contest was about.

I didn't see one single person say they were more entitled to those tickets than the winners. In fact I saw NO ONE say 'I DESERVED THOSE TICKETS" The only 'whines'- as you call them- were people expressing disappointment that the rules were changed midstream, and then moving on. There was also no one who claimed they were a better fan because they post more or have pictures taken with Rob. Dawn has a whole mess of pictures with Rob, I did not see her once say she was more deserving than anyone else, in fact she seems to be going the opposite way, expressing amazement that she was chosen, as if she thinks she DOESN'T 'deserve' it. IMO, FAN CLUB contests should be for people IN the fan club, not anyone who wanders along and decides to join that day. If it were a "message board member" contest, then anyone who posts, fanclub or not, would be eligible. If it was going to be a random contest, like a lot of the radio draws, it could be won by people who don't even know who Rob is and sit there like they're dead while he's onstage.

No one said anything about entitlement. Changing of the rules, or misrepresentation of them is what the issue is.
