Hi Ladies - been a little while since I've been on - between work and the holidays just no time. I did manage to catch Johnny on the GG the other night so that was a highlight. Big Grin
For the holidays my family went down to Disney - first time since 2001 so it was really nice to get back not to mention see all the pirate gear. At MGM I even got my picture taken with Captain Jack - it is too funny.

I saw this info on Tim Burton and thought that maybe someone on here might be interested. I definitely plan to go.

The Museum of Modern Art

Tim Burton
November 22, 2009–April 26, 2010

Special Exhibitions Gallery, third floor
Titus Theater 1 Lobby Gallery, T1
Titus Theater 2 Lobby Gallery, T2
Museum Lobby

This major career retrospective on filmmaker Tim Burton (American, b. 1958) consists of a gallery exhibition and a film series. The exhibition considers Burton's career as a director, producer, writer, and animator of live-action and animated films, along with his work as a fiction writer and illustrator, following the evolution of his creative practices and the current of his visual imagination from his earliest childhood drawing through his mature work. Taking inspiration from sources in pop culture, Burton has reinvented Hollywood genre filmmaking as a spiritual experience, influencing a generation of young artists working in film, video, and graphics.

The gallery exhibition focuses on work generated during the process of conception, development, and production of his films, and will cover Burton's realized and unrealized projects. It will include works on paper and sculpted in various mediums, as well as work in digital and moving-image formats such as concept art, production designs, drawn and painted animation art, 3-D models, puppets and maquettes, script treatments, storyboards, screen tests, other audio-visual components, and examples of his work as a graphic artist for non-film projects. Burton's films include Vincent (1982), Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure (1985), Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990), The Nightmare Before Christmas (as producer) (1993), Ed Wood (1994), Sleepy Hollow (1999), Corpse Bride (2005), and Sweeney Todd (2007); writing and Web projects include The Melancholy Death of Oyster Boy & Other Stories (1997) and Stainboy (2000).

oh, mary - you MUST go and give us a full report! i would love to go to that exhibit and i guarantee you that jenn would die to see that. tim has a new movie coming out soon, too. tara wants to see it. i believe it's 'coraline' or something like that. it is along the lines of 'nightmare before christmas' but about a girl named coraline (or something like that - forgive me, am on the phone while reading and posting so i can't jump to IMDB to check the title).

*edit*
see - that's what i get for posting before checking. it's NOT tim burton ... the previews say "from the director of 'nightmare before christmas' so assumed that meant tim. too bad Frowner

I saw previews for that movie awhile ago.

Has anyone heard about "9" yet? It's being produced by Tim Burton. It's computer animated. It's set for a September release.

I found a few articles about it.

Also it has one of my FAV actors in it. He does the voice over for 9, Elijah Wood.

Hi all
A couple of Johnny related articles

The Rum Diary Casting Calls -

First announced in May of 2005, could The Rum Diary finally be moving forward with Johnny Depp starring?
TheBadandUgly.com has received a casting announcement that suggests the Hunter S. Thompson adaptation will be Depp's next, as it lists a March 2009 start date. Depp will play Paul Kemp, a freelance journalist writing for a rundown newspaper in 1950s Puerto Rico and surrounded by a bunch of lost souls bent on self-destruction. Bruce Robinson wrote the screenplay and will direct.
Depp previously starred in the big screen adaptation of Thompson's "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." The casting call is for Chenault, the love interest in "The Rum Diary".

Fight against pirate fishing -

In a letter in support of EJF, Johnny Depp has called for an immediate response to the crisis before it is too late.
“Our seas and the people that depend upon them are facing a critical threat,“
he wrote. “Pirate fishing operations are plundering fish stocks the world over, which in turn undermine all attempts at their sustainable management, already under pressure from widespread misdirection. The devastating impact of this illegal form of fishing is felt not only by our marine ecosystems, but also by the millions of people living in some of the world’s poorest countries who rely on healthy fish stocks as an essential source of both food and employment.” (source: Look to the stars)

Gilliam Resurrects 'Man Who Killed Don Quixote' -

The Thanksgiving weekend was mostly a dead zone, but we reported on some public comments Terry Gilliam made that week about returning to his doomed Don Quixote project, which was the subject of the documentary Lost in La Mancha. At the time, Gilliam said of The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, "I was in some way relieved that it did fall apart, because I didn't have the money to finish it.
"It's a good thing it went down when it did because I would have got the blame for going over budget."
There were other problems besides the budget, including injured actors, a disastrous flood, and more.
Empire reports that Gilliam is now hard at work revising the script for his unfinished film, collaborating with his Fear and Loathing writing partner, Tony Grisoni. "I re-read the greatest script ever written and realize we gotta get rewriting! I really wanna knock that one out in the next month or so."
Because the film was never finished before, the original script was held up for years before the rights reverted back to Gilliam, who now says he has some "very different ideas" for the movie. The director would like to begin filming this year, according to Empire, but it's all contingent on Johnny Depp's schedule.
