I was actually surprised when I read that you were even going to a Rob show.

My fault, I wanted to see her so I MADE her go.... Big Grin wish we could have shared dinner April, next time lets coordinate better! Smiler

Big Grin

I'm glad I went. I do thoroughly enjoy the music, particularly the cradlesong CD. I've said that numerous times on this board.

We'll definitely coordinate better, Laura!

After reading this again, I do want to add that this is insulting to Rob and his fans. I do think Rob is good looking but I think he's a lot more than that. Believe me I don't think he would still have a career after 12 years if he was only a pretty face. The guy has some serious musical talent. Honestly, I just think you don't *get it.* That's okay but don't put the rest of us down that do *get it.*

1) I never said he wasn't talented or more than "just" attractive.

2) I didn't put anyone down.

I think Rob is a frighteningly talented artist. There is no other songwriter on the planet who has touched my soul with his writing. There's no other songwriter whose songs I have heard and thought, "My god, he just put my life in a song."

... Most of the people in here have made comments about not seeing anything BUT Rob, and many of those same people are posting in other threads about finding Rob attractive. I made a correlation, nothing more.

My comments were only meant to say that I don't watch Rob for the entire show. Half the time I don't even know where he is. He is not a visual magnet for me, whereas the majority of the board would probably say the opposite.

I'm sorry if you took that to be insulting, but that is not how it was meant by a long shot.

Well, that posts sounds a little more positive. Your first post was a big downer and I just wondered why you even bothered to go to the show. But you are right. I have seen a few positive posts from you regarding Cradlesong. I actually was glad that you liked the album because you had seemed to have become pretty critical of Rob over the years. I think some of us know each other too well even though we've never meet. Weird how that works out on a message board.

I rarely ever post, but I have to say that I went to three shows this tour in the same week and I thought they were all amazing! Rob Thomas concerts are my happy place. He could sing for 2 hrs in the dark and as long as I could hear him I would think it was money well spent. We should remember to appreciate the little things, and be thankful he toured at all this year. If you want to see a light show I hear Muse is good for that. =)

LOL! It's been fun as always. Seriously, though I'm sure you're anxious for next year. I hope the new MB20 album rocks, too. Big Grin

I have been to numerous Matchbox concerts and a handful of solo Rob concerts, and they were jaw dropping amazing.

So it's definitely not without love when I say this, but I really find this tour to be incredibly disappointing. I don't know if it's a tight budget due to the economy (the ticket prices DON'T reflect that, however), or what, but the whole stage get up was undeniably cheesy.

Rob's performance was awesome, his singing voice is getting better and stronger every day, and I am so impressed at his ability to sound completely flawless and in key without waver in concert. It's a rare talent. The band was pretty solid, the extra singers were blase.

The background and lighting was -terrible-. I went to the STL Halloween show, so I expected a little bit of goofiness, but it just seemed like a mishmash of Windows 98 screensavers and Halloween clip art.

I longed for something a little more musically adventurous. Last tour it seemed like they took a great handful of songs and really tweaked them a bit--the 9 minute Smooth/jazz impro session with Matt Serletic was the highlight and is imprinted on my brain to this day. But when they tried to take it outside the boundaries last evening, it was just "eh." The Thriller cover was neat, but there wasn't anything that really set it apart from the original.

I'm really thankful my tickets were free, because as a broke ass student, I would be incredibly frustrated if I HAD spent the $50 and that's what I got. Please don't hate, I understand that my opinion won't be received happily, but it's just my feelings at this moment.

You complained about ticket prices and then say that your tickets were FREE?? And you are complaining because you didn't enjoy your FREE concert? What exactly were you expecting - Rob to thank you personally from the stage for coming?

I was also at the STL show and I enjoyed every single second of it. Rob was funny, frisky, and totally interacting with the crowd. I guess you were too busy staring at the background and lighting to notice just how fabulous of a show it really was.

For you to say that the entire tour is lacking because of your experience at ONE show is very disrespectful. Rob puts himself out there for his fans night after night and gives it his all every single time.

If you are looking for props, dancers, and goofiness, I think Miley Cyrus is on tour right now...

I guess my overarching point is that we, as a board, tend to think that we make up a majority - when in fact, we are a VERY TINY minority of any given concert audience. What were there, ten people posting about the Hammond show? That venue was *packed*. We also tend to think we're the most dedicated fans - which certainly some are, but there are plenty of folks who go to multiple shows, travel extensively, and have never set foot on this site, even to lurk.

Among ALL of those people, I find it very difficult to believe that I'm in a five person minority. There are plenty of people who enjoy the entire experience of the show. Sure, the headlining act is a major, major part of that experience, as it should be. But I don't think there's anything inherently wrong with noticing the details that either aren't there, or are different and perhaps less than a previous tour. Rob has not changed - if anything, he's only gotten better. What's happening around Rob, at least for some of us, is very different, and for some of us, means the experience isn't quite what it could be.

I will grant that perhaps being closer to the stage might make a difference. If nothing else, you're too close to see and hear things that I was seeing and hearing further back - the lights are too bright, and the speakers too loud. I was the closest I've ever been at a Rob solo show, I think, in Hammond. But I was still far enough back to have an amazing view of the whole stage and the whole sound experience.

To be honest, the only detail that really *ruined* a song was the Carolina Liar guy on Getting Late. It's not one of my favorite songs to begin with, but I was looking forward to hearing it live. But he fucked it up, and that was irritating.

Everything else was pure observation. My experience would have been heightened, but I wouldn't say it detracted

LOL! That reminded me of a review I read a few days ago on ticketmaster.com. The reviewer thought Rob might make his show better if he added some dancers. I went WTH. Big Grin They sounded serious. This person obviously had no idea what kind of show Rob would put on.

One more little, tiny comment from me. Again, I just find it so odd how much time is spent talking about Rob's band and his interaction with them, etc. I've never seen a solo artist's band given so much attention (let me add that I think they are all awesome). Rob is on a SOLO tour. I've seen many solo artists perform before and as long as the music sounds great, I could care less how much the artist is high-fiving it with the bass player, etc. Who is the bass player anyway? I mean I know Al is for Rob and he's tremendous but when I saw Rod Stewart I couldn't name one band member. Why would I? That didn't mean that I didn't have a great time at the show.

Honestly, it just seems so odd to me.
