So after being a huge Tabithas Secret Fan, Matchbox 20 and Rob Thomas fan I finally was dissapionted by Rob Thomas. I paid for general admission for the Red Rocks concert as I usually do knowing that you can sit where ever you want, as I usually do when I get Red Rocks tickets. Soon to find out that "Rob Thomas' people" made the general admission people sit row 40 and up so they could film a DVD. This is not the usual at Red Rocks. There was no notification of this until I showed up and we were let into the gates. Many people were mad and many of us agreed that we would have paid the extra money for closer seats if we would have known about this. You truly have become a sellout Rob Thomas. Thanks for letting myself and many Denver fans down. I hope you did not notice the many people leaving as you started to play.

okay, i'm "new" here but not new to concerts and venues ... i have read a couple of posts about the seating at red rocks. i have to say that i too was confused about the seating when looking to buy tickets to the show - but when in doubt, i have learned to check the website of the venue itself because ticketmaster does often have the "standard" seating chart but many times this can be changed from show to show. the red rocks site DID have the correct seating information.

i don't think it's fair to "blame" rob for something i am pretty sure he had nothing to do with and probably didn't even know anything about. rob's job is to come onstage and perform - there are many, many others who take care of all of the rest of the production.

if anything, blame TICKETMASTER for having the incorrect information. surely rob can't be blamed for TICKETMASTER'S inconsistencies! Frowner

I'm sure glad that I'm not a celebrity. The crap they have to endure is endless. The seating arrangement was changed from the apparently "normal" Red Rocks seating arrangement before tickets went on sale. The FC was selling reserved seats up front as well as other sites. Ticketmaster had the wrong seating chart up. Yup, that looks like Rob's become a sellout. I guess that's the same as MB20 bringing paid "pretty" girls to the front of the stage during the filming of SHOW.

Now, I can understand someone being ticked off. I know I would be. I've never purchased Ticketmaster seats but if I had I would rely on the seating chart that they put on their site. However, if you bought tickets and just ASSUMED on your part that the seating arrangement would be the same as other concerts at the venue, I guess you ought to call yourself a little stupid for not checking up on the seating chart at THIS show. Geesh...people never cease to amaze me. Big Grin

I will say from being one of the general admission people who bought from Ticketmaster and was surprised to learn of the problem that probably the most troubling aspect of this was that the guest relations people that I spoke with (who granted probably make minimum wage) were pointing the finger at Rob and Rob's "handlers". I figured right away that the problem had to be on ticketmaster's shoulders but the guest relations folks, numerous times, blamed the situation on Rob. I'm only one of thousands of General Admission fans who have posted here and others can tell what they were told. There was a guest relations person who was trying to settle down the GA folks over the mix-up but over and over that gal and others I heard talking about this claimed that the decision was made by Rob. Unfortunately, that might be at least part of the reason people may show up on the board and in other areas upset with Rob and his folks with what happened. For the record, I believe the problem rests solely on Ticketmaster and their incorrect seating charts/information on their website and from what I heard from other fans, I believe even their phone numbers had it wrong.

WOW! it's hard to understand why you would blame Rob and not your self because you are the one who decided to take the tickets and you are the one who decided what to do in your life right?or are you letting other people choose what you do and don't do! umh, umh!!!!!!!!
It does sound like you did it and if you are unhappy maybe you should put yourself in a corner for time out! if it was that bad!
Now really as I have found out myself even if you see where you are going to be seated, there are all kinds of things that can go wrong no matter where you are shit happens and we are only human and life can kick you very hard as we all know, but it is what you make of it,so if it is so that you left the concert, then you missed out on a real good time, and with that kind of action you made yourself, have a poor time NOT ROB! from the song SHAME, SHAME!
THIS IS A FREE COUNRTY REMEMBER WE ALL HAVE AN OPION LIKE WE ALL HAVE AN , WELL YOU KNOW!!!
We all have issues but take it out on the right person, if there is anyone to blame.
In this world there is to much of placing blame , fault and shifting that it is someone else that is the cause, we all have something to complain about, but the question is , should we! thats my take on your statement, and you have yours, be nice not rude!

I have been to A LOT of concerts and Red Rocks and know for a fact that each event holds a different seating chart. Yes, a lot of them are GA up front - but some arent...check out www.redrocksonline.com - I thought it odd that radio stations where giving away 10th row - yet ticket master showed GA for rows 1-40. So I looked into it more - I found out that Ticket Master screwed up and had the wrong seating chart posted on their web site.

It isnt Rob's fault. Rob's "people" didnt do this just to screw you over or just because of the DVD. Rob Thomas doenst always have reserved or GA right up front.

This is completely ticket masters fault...not Rob's or Rob's "people" fault. He's not a sell-out -

With as much coverage as this got on the radio here giving away tickets for "the best seat in the house" it surprises me that nobody thought "hmm, that seems weird, maybe i should see if possibly ticket-bastard messed up"

I love how everyone jumps to blame Rob Thomas or his people for screwing them over.

Also to add - The reason I dont buy that it was robs people is because i went to HOB.com for my tickets...they had the correct seating chart up.

Hmmm, we were all confused on here about how the seating would be. That would be why we verified where the GA would be BEFORE we purchased our tickets. Sounds like that is your own fault, right?

Well, I haven't been to that concert site but from past experience with TicketMaster, they are usually wrong. I have gone through the wrong seating chart posted on their site, selling me tickets what weren't even available and the like. TicketMaster is not the most reliable. Calling Rob Thomas a sellout is taking it a bit far.

Since I've had some time to think about this situation, its really not unlike most things in life (at least in my life anyway lol). You have to learn lessons in many ways. My lesson with all this is to never trust the jerks at Ticketmaster. Even though I was further away than I had planned and didn't have the seating I had hoped for, it was still one of the best concerts I've ever gone to. So all in all it was a pleasant experience and I learned some things about purchasing tickets in the future. This doesn't mean that I have any love in my heard for the ticketmaster people lol.

"Maybe you can help remind us how to play one of our own songs!" ~Rob to me in St. Paul 01Aug01
"This song is...for you." - Rob, in Atlanta before he played 'Heavy' for me 24Oct05

"So we have a, one of our dear fans has been around for a long, long time and comes to a lot of our shows and she wanted us to play this song...so she kept saying 'play it, play it, play it', and i was like 'we can't, we can't' and she goes, 'why don't you do it acoustic?' '...that's not a bad idea..."
Thank you for Wonderful in Seattle 15Oct09 and beyond!! you're welcome. Wink

“I’m playing this for some friends cuz I tried to play it for them once and I screwed it up terribly. This is their favorite song so I’m going to try it again. I know I messed it up last time pretty bad. But, I, I, listen, here’s the deal, it’s because this is a song that doesn’t exist really anywhere unless you happen to have found a bootleg copy of it. Because it’s a song that matchbox twenty just started playing live and never recorded and never did really anything with and just uh, just one day just as quickly stopped playing it. And so it’s easy to forget those after years and years. So I’m trying to remember it again right now. This song is called ‘Heavy’ ” Rob, in Temecula before he played Heavy for me 19Nov05

Thanks for Heavy in Vegas 18Mar08!!!

Nothing else needs to be said, you said exactly what I was thinking immortal.

I've learned to ALWAYS check the official venue site when going to a concert to check proper seating.

Ah well....let me first say...WELCOME to the board!

Now...really...all I have to say is that....don't blame Rob or Rob's people for your assumptions. One thing I have learned in life...is to never "assume" anything....you always end up looking like an Ass in the end. YOU should have done your research. YOU should have made sure where your seats were going to be. YOU are the one to blame. Not Rob, not Rob's people, not the fact that he chose Red Rocks to do the DVD taping, not the venue...but YOU! YOU are to blame dear. Everytime I shell out my hard earned money for something....I make sure FIRST exactly what it is I am getting. So you have noone else to blame but yourself. Sorry you felt like you had to blame the wrong people for YOUR lack of prepareration in this case. By the way.....are you related to LEO? Roll Eyes

Sorry you didn't have a good experience, but you can't blame Rob for this one. I wasn't able to go to Red Rocks, but the Red Rocks and Rob Thomas websites both indicated that the first 40 rows were reserved seating before the tickets went on sale. That was long before there were any announcements about the DVD being filmed. It might have been in the planning earlier on but it wasn't a decision to rip general admission people off.

I'm pretty happy there was a DVD filmed since that's my only chance to see it. And as soon as Rob is selling it, I'm ready to buy Smiler
