The Truth Between You And I

{ Chapter 1 }

As I was standing by my locker ready to put in my combination, I caught her walking down the hall with her little clique that she always hangs out with. I dislike most of the people she’s with because they’ve always got something to say slick out the mouth to me. I ignore it, but it sometimes still gets to me. She’s different though, I don’t know why someone so unique hangs out with a whole bunch of bratty, snobby little girls. Her name’s Monique but most people call her Mo. She’s one of the most beautiful girls and popular in the school. She’s 5’6, light brown complexion, honey hazeled eyes that sparkles when the light hits them, goldish brown hair that reaches at the length of her chest, nice body, and a wonderful smile. But I don’t think she even notices me at all. High school is always separated in their own groups, and I wasn’t nowhere near the group she hangs around. I turn to my locker and turn the numbers on the lock to open it. I open it halfway to where it sticks out towards the hallway and take out my Math book to get ready to go to that class. I take a look at the picture on the door of my locker and pause for a minute; then continue replacing the things I take out my locker with things I don’t need for the rest of the day. Someone hand comes over my shoulder onto the locker beside mine, I had looked to see who it was and wasn’t surprised to see that it was Marco. Marco’s about 6’0, a little tan; but not much, black hair that’s above the top of his ear, along with one piercing on each ear, brown eyes, and muscular. He’s a jock of course, one of them that I don’t like.

“What do you have for me today?” He spoke with a smirk on his face.

I looked at him up and down like he was stupid and said nothing.

“I will repeat. What do you have for me today?” He raised his voice.

“Nothing, I have nothing for you and no longer will. I’m tired of you always thinking you can pick on me because you’re a jock and bigger then me.” I yelled at him.

I thought that it was the time to stand up for myself.

“What did you say punk?” He said with his nose scrunching up

He shoved me a little and my book dropped out my hands. I didn’t shove back because there’d be no point of doing it considering he’s already gave me a black eye before. I stayed silent and watched as he stared at me waiting for my response. I then see Monique walk towards us. She walks around Marco to step between us, she takes a look at me then back at him.

“Marco, what the hell are you doing? This boy aint do shit to you.” She shoved him the opposite way.

“You’re an asshole, go mess with one of your little jock friends.”

He said nothing back because he knew that he couldn’t win against her. He backed off and walked away with one of his friends. She looked back at me and bent down to pick up my book.

“Are you ok?” She asked while handing me my math book.

I looked over her shoulder to see her friends a distance back looking over at us both; their probably wondering why she’s conversating with me, but I ignore them.

“Yea, thanks. I cant stand him.” I said

“I know. I don’t see how he’s popular; a lot of people don’t even like him like how they use to.” She said while smiling from laughter a little.

“How could anybody like him?” I replied

She laughed at the facial expression I had along with those words.

“Your funny, my names Monique what’s yours?”

Her; asking me what my name is? Wanting to actually know me. That’s different…and she thinks I’m funny; which most people don’t really think so. But considering the fact that I don’t really talk to anybody it’s kind of hard to think that.

“My name is-.”

The late bell cuts me off and two of her friends runs over and yanks her away from me to get to class; I knew something was going to go wrong. I closed my locker and went to my next class. I banged on the classroom door since the fact I was late and the door was locked. The teacher Mr. Barber opened the door and told me to take my seat. He’s a short black guy that always wore alligator shoes, with a button down shirt that he tucks into his pants, jerry curls, and facial hair on the chin, and a mustache. I sit in the front of the classroom and watch him go to his desk and pull out a detention. Not again. You would think me being a ‘geek’ I always get to class on time, truthfully I don’t. He sets the detention on my desk and tells me to turn to page 467 for me to get started. I pull out a sheet of paper and a pen; write down all the problems, then start to do them. The last problem kind of had me stuck

“If (-2 + x^2)^5 = 1 then what can x be equal to in the set of positive irrational numbers?” I read to myself out loud.

I knew this last week, but my mind went blank. I tapped my pen a few times and repeated the problem over and over again; then I remembered the answer. A kid behind me leaned up and asked me for the answers I just looked back at him and got up to bring it to the teachers desk. The bell had then rang; the next period was lunch so I figure I’d see Monique again and maybe get another chance to talk to her.
