"Fuck."I said under my breath as I started cramping. I searched around the room for a sanitary napkin and rushed inside my bathroom. Once In there, I was flabbergasted by the beautiful sight. It was as if Marcus had thrown all my interests into one room. Over my toilet was a Andy Warhol inspired picture of Audrey Hepburn; while the rest of the room was lime green with the Portrait studio feel. I almost forgot the reason I'd came into the bathroom.

I changed my pad and rushed back in my room to set up my bed spread. Marcus' brother, Spectacular, stood in my door way awaiting my return. "P told us you sang. You think you could help us with a project ?" He asked as if I was going to do the favor. I hadn't sung in a long time and I wasn't planning on bringing that "talent" back. The way his dark brown orbs looked at me, I just couldn't refuse; his stare caused my legs to feel jello like, but still I stood. "So what's it gone be ?" He asked impatiently.

"You haven't even heard me sing, I really sound awful."

"I'm pretty sure you don'." He complimented. "Why don't you sing a lil' somen' you know. So I can hear you sing."

"What would you like to hear ?" I asked him sighing. I was deliberately going to try and sound my worst, but something told me otherwise.

"Weak, by dem girls SUV."

"SWV ?"

"Yeah, dem." He chuckled as I recognized his mistake. I took upon his challenge and sung the chorus. I was happy that the look on his face wasn't too happy to the fact that I wasn't bothered with singing. I got up and began to unpack the last bag I had. "Yeen gotta do that right nah. We got business to handle." He politely grabbed my hand and made me follow him to a room downstairs where the rest of his brothers were.

"What'd you do ? Bribe her with money ?" Marcus asked shocked to see my face.

"Naw, I just got her to sing for me. I mean she can sing so it shouldn' be no thang."

"Get in the booth," Marcus directed smiling, "I want you to make love to them lyrics up there on that podium." He directed trying his best to hype me up.

"La la la la la la la, la -"

"Stop. You said this girl can sing ?" Their bigger brother who I was introduced to laughed in my face. I may not be able to hear behind the glass, but I damn sure could read lips. Marcus screamed something and walked out of the booth as I saw Spectacular take his place.

"Ay listen up Melody. Since my brother here finds you funny I'm gone need you to listen to me before you start to sing." He commanded, "Close yo eyes and just relax. Picture you being on the beach with the man of yo dreams. He caressin' ya body just like you want it done." I imagined everything just as he said, details precisely. "He whisperin' sweet nothings in ya ear then all of sudden hits that spot that makes you sing out. Can you do that fo' me girl ? Can you sing fo' me like you sing fo' him ?"

I opened my eyes out of the trance shaking my head yes. I repeated the lyrics over again, this time with the beat dropping. The light sound of my voice with strong effects blurred out over the microphone. I closed my eyes hitting the last high note and was done. He winked and mouthed off well done. I don't know what it is about that boy. But I like it.
