Well you already know V, i always planned on rapping. For the past year i've been studying the whole genre of music. During Thanksgiving break i was able to explain rap music about its essence rather than what it is perceived. Drugs, gangs, violence & sex. But, i feel music in general, you learn more about the song if you listen to the lyrics. Some people pay closer attention to the mood, some the lyrics, some the instrumentals. I actually enjoy the album art, i'm curious on learning as much as possible about how a certain got to that point, do they know someone i know. And can i get a certain producer or artist on my show. But its different for me i delve deep into the music i actually just listen to accapellas and instrumentals now. But i by the album, for the art and information. Of course you can get the same information on pc. But i buy the cd then burn in onto my computer, because i know the CD will get scratched. And also from there i pull up information about the CD for free. I listen to tracks i rarely download anything. Like i said i'm in a different position though, now i listen to a lot of underground music, and they just send me tracks now. So i dont really fiend for downloading music. I used to download a lot of Lupe, that was because i couldnt buy it. I downloaded mixtapes and stuff on datpiff, songs here and there, but i buy albums and plan on buying The Cool. I believe people buy albums or download illegally for these reasons. The quality has severly decreased, so it deserves the benefit of free download, people will only buy crap for so long. And it is an intangible item, it seems as if its easier to take from the comfort of yoru own home. Only if you're a big fan of music you will probably buy the item. Otherwise if you care for only a few tracks you'll download illegally. So as an artist, it is necessary to be more complete and polish up your craft. Like for me and movies, i may watch a movie for free on the internet because i'm not a fan of movies and they cost more, and for movies i probably wont watch it over and over. But me being a lyrical rapper i will listen to an album over and over. So it all depends on will a consumer buy something of low quality with little interest in it. Only a few will unless you love the genre or can pull something from it.

Well just to add to what LF said, I never really aspired to be a rapper, I dont like the image it holds in the media, but i like to write, and alot of people keep telling me i'm a gifted writer from reading some of the things i write, whether it be short stories, essays poetry or raps, and told me if i dont like Hip Hops image in the media i should change it, so i keep that option on the table, but if the media is so saturated with the vulgar things that sell not just in music but the whole entertainment industry, Hip hop falls in the category of publicizing its bad side, leavening the good side under raps had it not been for downloading i may have never found the other side of hip hop music, because its vulgar side was the only one made readily available by the media. I value the art of music but the music that is to be valued is often hard to find and sometimes only found by downloading.(i.e. Kenna, first album)

Like LF said one of the main reasons people download music other than it not being made available as i said earlier, is because of the low quality of music, if i use Soulja boy as an example, its not that he's making a dance song, or he's not lyrical, its the fact that you can tell he didnt put much time and effort in his music, he raps off beat and the beat sounds like its fresh from Fruity loops, as opposed to Kanye west to takes his music seriously, but the reason Kanye can take his music seriously is because he dosent need it to make money he does it for the love of music, where as other artist have to sell and subcome to recoard companies wishes in order to eat, the music now becomes a slave to money hindering there creativity lowing its quality and thus makeing people not want to waste money buyin it when they can get it for free and move on to the next artist.

Another reason is how the Industry is set up, I-tunes allows people to download songs seperatly, so if artist A, who make music for money makes 1 good song, people download that one song and forego the album, they do this for numerous artist and comprise their own playlist of good music.Because of this people may hear a song on radio download it and not know who the artist is, example Kick Push being downloaded over 6 million times, but Food and Liqour barley going gold(if that). This does nothing for album sales but opens up a whole new market...The Ringtone Market, now artist A doest even care about alubms because that dosent make him money, the focus on making good ringtone songs thus another decline in the quality of music, the public is still not buying that when the can get it for free.

Another reason is the Wait, Why wait to pay when you can get it now for free, the odds are tempting,......but hey illegal downloading is all thanks to the "ingenious" record exec who thought of leaking an artist's album to see how "hot" they were.....should of stuck to free mixtapes.

The reason I buy albums is because of the album art aswell, and the booklet not for the music because it will end up on my cpu or mp3 player anyway, the booklet usually as info about the artist or other information aside from the art, that make it worth while, and also the feeling of riping it out the pack poping it in CD player and hearing it for the first time.

Wow, thanks you guys!!!
Really appreciate the help n I def see where u comin from cause thats how I feel too. Reason why CDs sales are down cause of illegal downloadin n cause da art of music is gone, no quality on da work. Which makes it harder for new artist to get on n sale.

BUT KEEP DA ANSWERS COMING PLEASE!!!
IT WILL HELP ME A LOT W/ MY ASSIGNMENT!!!
