Ive seen this mentioned before but not ever a thread so its not a repeat (i think).
Lu on F&L was slightly less lyrical then his mixtapes. Plus Lu sung on some of the tracks. I personally dont consider F&L sellin out on Lu's part. It was still underground. The Cool had VERY poppy beats (he even said so himself) and the lyrics were almost COMPLETELY watered down. Now I know he dropped Dumb it Down to assure us that "Lupe Fiasco can still rap" but im not arguin that Lu cant go shittin on tracks (so dont go sayin "Well maybe Lu's just losin the magic"). Lu has said that hes retirin because of the money. So F&L did bad in sales. 2 years later, The Cool comes out all poppy and shit. SO did Lu sell out? AND what does this mean for LupEND? Will it be even more poppy? "I start to think/ and then I sink/ Into the paper/ like I was ink/ When im writin im trapped in between the lines/ I escape/ when I finish the rhyme/" |

lol where did this venting come from?
That's just my Opinion though... .................... |

I wouldn't call The Cool poppy, other then Go Baby and Paris, Tokyo. Other then that it was dense. Lupe decided to spread into different avenues that he also had interest in, Hello/Goodbye, rather then being pigeonholed into being one thing, which he ofter complains about.

As long as Lu keeps dropping some insane stuff, He can retire because he's not making money. I'll buy LupEND. And The Cool is actually my favorite album/mixtape.

what do u mean by his not making money..not making money in comparison to who?...what is "making money" to yall...i think he's not selling out, i think if he had done this album first then put f & l out he would've sold more records, but if u guys wanna talk about record sales, alotta peeps are dropping albums and are satisfied by just selling 300 or 400k

Yeah but alot of the profit goes to plp besides the artist. You only get a lil cut of the profit and plus you paid for all the vids yourself.

naw. I just think on the cool he wanted to take some artistic chances and he still had meaningful songs and songs which hinted messages..and yeah there were songs that were poppy.lol..but he still kept it true to himself..
lupend will probaly be a mixture of lupe- the mixtape lu and the lu off the cool..that's just my opinion tho' |

The fuck is this, CNN...lol It's really funny now that I've got you makin' sure you don't repeat threads...LOL I don't think he sold out. I think he went in a different direction, because of everything that's goin' on in his life, as well as figuring out what to say, since he's been sayin' that he's just short on things to say. His mixtapes were more lyrical, if that's what you wanna call it, because IMO they weren't for the masses. It's a different audience when it comes to mixtapes. Not that that means he sold out. It only means he appealed to his fans in the right way. Yeah, there were some poppy beats, that doesn't mean he sold out. You gotta expect SOME kind of change from the first to second album. Dumb it down was released for the fans, to tell them yeah he can still rap but also to tell the rest of the public that he's not gonna change his style because people don't understand it. And when did he say he's retirin' for money? I thought it was because he didn't have anything to say AND that he didn't like the music industry in the same way he did a long time ago. K I officially don't know what the hell I'm sayin...but bottom line: he didn't sell out. Check the writtens.. www.out-her-space-13.blogspot.com Wordsmith. |

i honestly dnt think the cool was poppy, to me it's darker, and he even said it was, sure Go Baby is poppy, but all the other beats aren't. when his album came out there was plenty of threads on breaking down his songs, so i dnt think he watered dwn the cool

the cool was a dark album.. and i love lupe and hate that hes retiring because he is so under rated and the money. you look at 50cent out there making 50mill an album and does shit work. then you get lupe fiasco who puts work in his albums and is great music and only makes 500k to a mill. id be pissed too.

Imma get alotta hate but i HATE BLACKOUT...i feel like that track was just some shit lupe did when he was bored in the studio, it sounds like one of them timberland/justin timberlake songs...its not really lyrical, he just used metaphors that really had no relevance
That's just my Opinion though... .................... |
||||

I was never really into Blackout either..
But that's probably cuz I've only taken a few listens. I haven't put much time into that song. Check the writtens.. www.out-her-space-13.blogspot.com Wordsmith. |
