Way back in the Twilight song discussion, posters were saying how the Open Door songs probably represented the current musical direction and that the Twilight song was a throwaway. Just a diversion, if you like.

Well, listening to the interview section of the World Cafe recording, it is clearly stated by Ben and Chris that the Open Door songs were written at the time of Narrow Stairs but were left off the album because they just didn't fit right.

Could this mean then that Meet Me On The Equinox does represent the current musical direction after all.

If so.............oh poo.

That would make me feel super uneasy.

The World Cafe recording is top notch by the way, and everyone should get it.

And the hardest part is yet to come

I doubt it. It was made for a movie, which already has a set feeling to it, Ben probably wrote the music to fit the movie.

We can only hope though.

i don't think that reasoning would work because the song being a throwaway isn't relevant to when their previous work was written.

Both points have some validity. I think it's a given that the lyrical content will have been inspired by, and relevant to the movie.

I'm just concerned that the overall feel to the way the song sounds is not indicative of the direction Death Cab are moving in generally.

That said, as all musicians know, it's not unusual for bands/artists to "raid the vaults" as it were, and fit lyrics to old song outlines and ideas. Or even adapt recently discarded efforts to suit a certain situation.

In which case I probably just allayed my own fears.

Topic closed?
