Modest Mouse and Death Cab were the first two bands I really, really got into. And they both led me to almost all the music I now listen to in some way or another. They pretty much helped shape my music taste after middle school.
Along the same lines as ashley modest mouse is another one of my favorite bands
of course through death cab i learned of the postal service that is most likely an obvious one though!
Nothing else specific comes to mind at the moment but DCFC was eye-opener into the wonderful world of indie music for me.
Iron and wine did do a cover of such great heights i believe for the movie garden state, i recognized the song and looked into the band and developed an interest in them too.
death cab kind of got me into music. i listend to music before, but death cab made me a vinyl addict n then i started buying other records from other bands, so my record collection kinda started cause one of my friends got me hooked on death cab, which got me hooked on vinyl, which got me into every other band i listen to.

Ha ha nice wierd... my ex bf would play the song on the guitar and i would sing along. Although i was terrible at it, still had fun. Still love the song just cant listen to it the same anymore....
I think a great deal of people got into the american analog set due to Ben's work with Andrew. The decemberists i found out about via Chris Walla's production work, same with racetrack. You can bet A lot of noobs are going to be getting into superchunk via this new tour, as John Wurster is drumming. So many people forget about superchunk which is very odd as without superchunk death cab may not have even existed.

Personally, I got to John Vanderslice through hearing Ben mention him.
I also found Frightened Rabbit following thier support slot on the UK tour last year.
And increased my appreciation of Jenny Lewis (solo) following her appearances onstage with Ben.
Pretty much all of this + the Decemberists, The Long Winters and the Dismemberment Plan who they all toured with (and who Chris Walla, with the exception of "The Plan", all produced) so thank you death cab. Oh and just getting into the Barsuk label was a big deal... and of course the amanset.

Talking of (sort of) DCFC linked bands, I just saw an advert on telly and the background music was one of the tracks off The Passion Pit - Chunk EP. It's I've Got Your Number and the company is Visa.
I really hate it when bands I like let organisations like Visa use thier material.
Puts the DCFC Twilight song into perspective though.
And the hardest part is yet to come

For me, it was the other way around. I discovered Death Cab after hearing Ben play Carolina over the PA at the start of a Bright Eyes concert in 2005. They also played Young Pilgrims by the Shins, who I hadn't heard before either.
My experience of new bands is largely the same as others that have already posted in this thread: John Vanderslice and Frightened Rabbit were the biggest revelations when they opened for Death Cab. I'm surprised that Styrofoam haven't found a way into my affections yet as their support slot at the Apollo in July of last year was actually pretty good.
