I feel like i've not noticed how big they've gotten they still seem like the same band i was persuading my friends not to be put off by their name years ago but now they've got a #1 album and are in the top 10 listened to bands on last fm along with the beatles, radiohead, coldplay (i know they both suck Razzer), foo fighters, chili pepps i mean kinda seems like they've gotten huge all of a sudden?!

Like also the last gig i went to sold out in a few hours and i was like... hmm that's weird but didn't think anything of it...

Seem kinda huge?

What do you guys think.

I would have to agree that death cab has gotten bigger, much bigger! When I first started listening to them a lot of people I knew had no idea who I was talking about. I would go on and on about this amazing band and they would just look at me funny, but now that has all changed. Every one I know is at least aware of who death cab if, even if they don't like them.

I first time I noticed that they were getting huge was at the show in providence, ri, they managed to fill an entire hockey arena. The floor, the seats, everything was taken, I couldn't believe that this many people cared to come out and see death cab. The only down side of this is even though the people know death cab, they don't KNOW death cab. I can bet that a lot of people are aware of death cab don't know there songs past Plans or maybe Trans.

I do agree though that no matter how big they get or how many people know them they will always stay small in my mind. I think I just like it better to think of them as that as apposed to a huge hit band (even though thats great for them!)

It has been like this ever they've performed on The OC. In my opinion, we shouldn't bitch about it. I sincerely grant them all the success in the world. Sure, I'm pissed off that I've got to make sure to buy tickets in time, otherwise it'll be sold out. But hey, a little success never harmed anybody.

Yeah these are my sentiments too, they'll probably always be small to me as well as everything they were when i first heard them which is why i think like minded people appreciate the new album on a different level to the trans/plans crowd which i'm starting to think are a majority? The last death cab show i went to the plans songs (in particular IWFYITD) were drowned out by singing which was only reserved for appropriate moments before.

It's great for ben that they're doing so well because he's put sooooo much effort into the band over the past 10 years and deserves everything great thing and i think he still knows where they came from so isn't about to screw the old fans over which is reassuring.

I totally agree with that, in there spring tour they were playing a lot of the new stuff because it was all new, but now it's all different. There are so many old songs being played and they keep switching it up! It shows that they know what songs a lot of people want to here (IWFYITD), but they also know what songs there old or most devoted fans want to hear as well and they are going to play them even if most people don't know what it is (Title Track).

Death Cab will always represent their older albums. Bands like Death Cab that take a while to get really popular will always remember their humble beginnings.

Not that long ago, it was almost impossible to buy a death cab album in my city.

Death Cab is in Girlfriend magazine, totally in with the 'I wish to be alternative' crowd right now, as they sit around their rooms in their Juno vests.

They're huge in the US yeah, but in the UK very few people i know have heard of them. It's only through me that any of my friends have listened to them or would recognise the name.
Narrow Stairs managed 24th in the charts over here, so considering their popularity pre-Trans, you could definitely say they've grown into more of a household name in recent years.

In the Netherlands, DCfC still doesn't get a lot of exposure on major music channels and radio, but they are known to the masses. Concerts are sold out very quickly and even in more mainstream cd stores attendants know what you're talking about when you ask for Death Cab.

That's basically the way it is in the US. I don't hear them on the radio all the time, but IWPYH is on occasionally.

That reminds me, one day at work I was listening to a XM radio station called "the loft" and they played 'Your New Twin Size Bed' (my favorite song off the new cd) I about died right there!
