I don't know about the specific significance of the art work. I do know it's by Adde Russell.
Does anyone know if the work done for the DCfC singles were done prior to their release? Or did he desighn all of their cd's speacial? Stutter-step to those slammin' gooves. |

I always thought that the bird was a crow, and it was a reference to measuring distance "as the crow flies," since the album's all about distance... that's just what i got from it.

So, I gotta say- I'm pretty sure that, on some level, this is an allusion to The Rats of NIMH
The crow character is pretty much always entangled in red string... I dunno, seems like it fits right? |

According to their web site Adde's work is inspired by sources inspired by daily routine. If you look at Seattle 2004 there are many images that involve animals and birds tangled in red wool. I think they just liked the art?
Also, Adde is a she. |

I thought the symbolism had to do with the feelings of being tied down. Throughout the album there is the feeling of longing for a lover that is far away, that he can't get to, like a bird that is tied down.

that unused PLANS album art is pretty cool
