I read on another forum that IWPYH doesn't "explode" and kind of just meanders on in it's own foundation. This person called it a waste of potential, to summarize. This same person went on to say that it could have been something more like the track Transatlanticism.

Well, what do you all think and which track do you prefer?

Question:
"Transatlanticism" or "I Will Possess Your Heart"

Choices:
"Transatlanticism"
"I Will Possess Your Heart"

Possess is a good song, but it's no where near the beauty of Trans.

Yeah, Transatlanticism is fly. I Will Possess Your Heart is a great song and was recorded in an awesome way and the instrumentation is tight. Trans is just a much more powerful song and part of that is certainly because it builds up to a breathtaking climax (mmm :O) which Possess fails to do. Still like it a quite a bit, but it's nowhere near the experience of Trans.

Trans, no doubt. IWPYH is a great song, but Trans is soooo much more meaningful... maybe I'm biased because I have lost love over seas, bu either way, Trans wins...

but...i don't think IWPYH could be compared to trans. Trans to me...is more of a grapevine fires or a what sarah said type of song. Other than length...they really aren't comparable.

agreed. there really is no point to these threads because it's obvious that you can't compare the two.

Not true actually... the crescendos, the atmospheric instrumentation, the repetivity, the piano/guitar hybrid, and obviously, the length.

Pretty similar to me.

Transatlanticism all the way. Both are good. But the emotion in trans is beautiful.

I'm not ashamed to say I voted IWPYH...

Sure, I love Trans just as the rest of you DC-fanatics do. I just much prefer the build-up that IWPYH has... more like Different Names than Trans.

In all fairness (and as some have stated) it's a stupid comparison...

My only one criticism of Trans is that it peaks too soon and kinda goes on a tad too long with the whole 'I need you so much closer' vibe.. as much as I love it, I sometimes wished it held off on the big crescendo for just a verse longer...

I am a self-confessing IWPYH fan though and I think the track is nigh-on perfect. The video... the build-up... Ben's ever-poignant voice... it's an audio-orgasm that dampens my trousers everytime !
