Hey there guys. I just wanted to say I'm a huge fan of death cab. But I have a question. I'm not a huge fan of I will follow you into the dark. I don't want to take away anything from it, it's a great song just not my favorite one. When I say I'd rather The New Year or I will possess your heart, etc..... over it people tend to attack me and rip me up to shreds!!! Like common isn't a question of taste?? Leave me alone! Just wanted to know if there's anyone out there like me?? !! ???

I personally love that song... but you will find a lotta people on here that don't really care for it for various reasons. I think that maybe it was played out (by both the radio and by the people who like death cab). It's one of those songs that people scream at during shows. I probably overplayed it, too... but it's still a great song and I can still listen to it.

I think its a really good song. Although it does have a finite amount of listens. no matter how many times I hear transatlanticism live I will never get bored of it. If I will follow you into the the dark was retired for a couple of years it would probably get new life. Dont think it will ever happen though.

There wasn't much magic when I heard it live. I think maybe if I had heard it live a few years earlier I would've enjoyed it more... but I think that in its place, other songs would have better energy for a show.

It was really enjoyable a few years ago at the embarcadero show, maybe it was the show. That was hands down the best death cab show I have seen to date. Looking back, when plans came out I remember really liking the song. To this day soul meets body still irritates me as it did when I first heard it.

It's an amazing song. I suppose it's become their 'big' song though, it's not a personal fave but I appriciate how incredible the lyrics are.

ok so here's the deal. i'm sure at least most of us have been involved in the debate of "i will follow you into the dark" being suicidal or not, and have seen that (hilariously wrong) local news broadcast from whatever station that was about "the new emo culture" that had "dark" and other dcfc songs on it.

yes, i know the song's not about that, and yes, i've read what gibbard has had to say about it, but i never fully understood what he was going for. i mean, it seems to me that he's saying he would literally follow the person into the "dark" (afterlife), but at the same time isn't saying that he'd go all romeo-and-juliet on his loved one haha. iis it just a song that doesn't make total sense haha?

IMO, it's a great song. Superb lyrics. Unfortunately, over played live, but you can understand why.

Also, the story of how it came to be recorded is rather interesting.

And the hardest part is yet to come
