OC Part 2? Eeker

http://www.billboard.com/news#...oon-1004007214.story

Death Cab For Cutie, the Grammy nominated indie rock band from Bellingham, Wash., has scored the coveted lead single spot on the soundtrack for New Moon," the intensely anticipated second installment of the "Twilight" vampire series.

"Meet Me On the Equinox," a song Death Cab For Cutie composed and recorded specifically for the "New Moon" movie, will be unveiled Sept. 13 on MTV's website during the Video Music Awards broadcast.

The entire soundtrack for "New Moon" is set for release on Oct. 20 on Chop Shop/Atlantic Records. While no other artists are yet confirmed, music industry sources have the sound headed in a more indie-centric direction than the first "Twilight," with Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Bon Iver, Grizzly Bear and Muse all in the running.

Alex Patsavas -- the influential music supervisor whose credits include television shows "The O.C.," "Grey's Anatomy," "Gossip Girls" and "Chuck" as well as the original "Twilight" film -- is the music supervisor for "New Moon." All of the songs in "New Moon" will be exclusive to the film, all either written specifically for the movie or never available anywhere else.

The original "Twilight" soundtrack was released in Nov. 2008, debuted on the Billboard 200 at No.1 and has sold 2.2 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan. That set includes tracks from Muse, Paramore, Mute Math, Collective Soul and Linkin Park. The release was huge out of the gate, sales subsided a bit, but then surged back up after it was reissued in a deluxe format timed to the DVD release of the movie in March, 2009. The "Twilight" album logged 20 weeks in the top 10 of the Billboard 200 -- the longest top 10 run for a theatrical film soundtrack since 1998, when both "Titanic" and "City of Angels" also managed 20 weeks.

Death Cab For Cutie's most recent album, 2008's "Narrow Stairs," also reached No.1 on the Billboard 200 and has sold 538,000 copies.

They wrote an original song...specifically for and about Twilight. Wow.

EDIT: Here's a link to Nick talking about it.

When I saw this I wanted to make a thread called "It's over" with a link to the news.

Something tells me that they got paid a looot of money for this.

This is maybe the most depressing news of my entire year.

WWJJJD? Everyone should ask themselves this question daily.

I had to come here today to express my supreme disappointment in the guys.

The O.C. thing was tolerable; I even understood the choice to be in the show, but this is practically inexcusable. Am I going to burn all of my Death Cab merchandise and CDs because of this? No, probably not, unless I get really, really piss drunk. But putting creative effort into composing a song for a franchise that is a such an horrific blight on today's society, from its conversion of innocent tween girls into nymphettes with a bizarre sexual obsession with vampires to its indoctrination of millions of people with the tenets of Mormonism, is heartbreaking, demoralizing, and truly tragic.

What the fuck, guys?

I heard about this yesterday but got no confirmation.

I wouldn't really care if they allowed one of their songs to be used on the soundtrack, but actually writing something for this god awful series is pathetic. "OC Part 2" is exactly what this is, only worse because Twilight fans are so fucking annoying.

Oh well, their new shitty direction ("I'm starting to feel/We stayed together out of fear/of dying alone") fits in with this shitty series, I can't wait to hear how bad these lyrics are.

I can't believe I liked this fucking band. I feel like I've been raped 5 years ago without being told and now I'm just being told about it.

lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame.

I believe I said a while back that Death Cab sold out. Fireworks at shows. VMA nominations. But this tops it all. Writing a song specifically for a movie about a bunch of vampire douches.

lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame lame

There are NO words to describe how upset I am.
I really don't want to see "Oh it's a good opportunity for Death Cab".
Fuck you. Shut the fuck up.

I'm so excited to have to hear a bunch of 12 year old's yelling how much "they luv Death Cab".

I'm so furious. I can't explain.

We could travel just by folding the map.

I feel your fury, but I'm definatley not surprised. 12 year old girls have been coming to shows and screaming to "I Will Follow You Into The Dark" for years. This is just a much more obvious mainstream popularity move. I've been saying Death Cab has sold out for a while now, and it seems like everytime I start to feel like I'm unfair about it, they pull a U2 firework display, they get nominated for an "award" that Kid Rock also got nominated for, or they spend a bunch of time making a song for some lame movie series.

They've sold out. Contradict me, I dare you.
