I was really looking forward to Subterranean this week as according to their blog,

"Tune in to Subterranean this Sunday night and we’ll be playing the full 8 minute long
version of the new DCFC video - this might be the only place to see it in full on
national TV"

Great!, I thought - I'll finally get to see the video in real detail. Imagine my surprise when it turns out it's a 4 minute edit. Not only that, but all the footage of the girl has been completely reedited and reordered, and even the scenes with the band are now in different spots. The smiles are missing from the middle, no looking over her shoulder on the plane, no lighting candles, etc.

Honestly, the differences in the edit seemed completely random. The most puzzling thing was that all the locations/scenes are completely reordered - making the ordering in both videos seem completely random. In addition, the scene with the girl appearing to walk out of a dark hallway was doubled in length and the pullback from close-up to wide angle at the end was cut in half. I thought that pull-back in the full length really lended itself to the stalker-ish feel and it really looses it's power when the pull back is so abridged.

So I went onto youtube to find links to both versions to include in this post, and I'm yet again surprised to find YET ANOTHER alternate edit, this one with just the live band shots.

Anyone know where this band only alt edit came from? I didn't hear any mention of it in the band's announcements of the past few days. I think it's my favorite of the three. The versions with the girl leave me feeling unsettled as if there's something I'm not getting.

so in conclusion the four minute version sucks. Here's your prize-

No, the 4 minute version doesn't "suck". Both videos are strong on their own, and the footage of the girl is beautiful.

However once you've seen both vids, you may conclude there's no meaning behind the sequencing of the footage of the girl - in either version.

Take a few minutes (12 to be exact!) and watch both . I'm interested in discussing the different versions of the video, but not in trading snide comments.

a few things i noticed that i love about it:
-i think its funny how you can see chris singing along
-i also dig how its obviously more of the band playing
-i like when ben fixes his has in the middle of playing at 2:3something
-water off the drums and the seeing chris' breath come out like a train still are the best in the video lol


Also, do i spy chris with a new red fender telecaster, instead of his normal gold colored one? telecasters are the best fender

Yes but G&L Asat Bluesboy and Classic are the best telecasters

I really like the band only version. The normal one isn't bad, but I just don't get it. Not that the band only version makes anymore sense, but...

it seems like someone's just taken all the band bits from the full version and mashed them together to make this.

Did you even watch this version? The regular version hardly shows the band at all, there isn't enough to take the bits from the regular version and make a full one.

nah i just thought i'd take a wild stab at it.
there's actually about 3.5 mins worth of band footage in the full video, you could easily repeat one or two scenes to take up the length of the radio edit.

The initial two seconds isn't in the full video. It's a very overexposed fuzzy shot of Chris walking towards the camera.

yeah it just seemed like the ideal explanation for why some random person would have that video on youtube. especially since everyone seems to comment on how there's not enough of the band in the video it made sense that someone would go and make that on their own.

I love the band edit. Chris looks freezing.
