I downloaded the album last night just to listen to it, then i will buy it on aug 30th....but i was wondering, for those who have heard it, what are your thoughts on plans.
I think it is a realy good sounding album. i'm not sure if the lyrics are as good as older stuff, but i've only listened to the whole album a few times.
I would give this album an 8 or 9 out of 10. It sounds like music DCFC would release regardless of being on a major label.
Just curious, besides what you think of plans, how do you think this album will stand up to the test of time?
I think there are some definite A-grade Death Cab songs on Plans; the lyrics have never sounded so cohesive and vivid...the final 3 minutes or so of 'What Sarah Said' had me totally mesmerised, Crooked Teeth is definitely a much-needed upbeat, jaunty song, and there's a good 4 others that I'm really enjoying just about 5 whole listens to the album in. 'So who's gonna watch you die?' is definitely a worthy successor to Transatlanticism's 'So Come on...'

i think i agree with you about the lyrics. im one for picking apart songs and finding meanings. im not a big fan of straightforward, although ben pulled it off remarkably.
Yeah, actually, the only thing I really liked about it were the lyrics. Ben never dissapoints. But I feel that on most Death Cab albums, every song was good, and there weren't standouts, but that's what I don't like about Plans. Of course there are a lot more than just three or four standouts, there's a good five-six, which definitely makes for a good record, but it's too over-produced. I definitely like 'I Will Follow You into the Dark' 'cuz it's original, and 'Crooked Teeth' is unbelievable pop. But overall, the record wasn't something that would stand out to me, if I wasn't the Death Cab fan that I am.

i dont think its over produced. its more like the sound recording is the best they've ever had. they recorded a million doller studio with champagne and caviar, hoes and bling. just kidding, but seriously, the studio was probably better then what they are used to

I totally agree with that. I really dont like Someday You Will Be Loved, sounds like house of the rising sun, but other that that there are no really bad songs, just not many great songs either. I do think it will be a grower however.

Whoops. That's what I meant to say. Not over-produced, just too clean, crisp, and rich. I know that sounds like a good thing, but I just liked the older stuff, and you can say what you will, but that's what I'm sticking to.

i prefer the older stuff. i mean, the lyrics are good and all, but it's not as raw/emotional/telling as the old albums. i like the new sound but i prefer the old one... the new one is a lot more mainstream sounding. none of the songs are amazing or suck me in. it's still a great album, but no songs are amazing.
