For the last couple of years, ive been listening to Death Cab on-and-off. But since Narrow Stair came out, ive rekindled my love for DCFC and have not stopped listening to them since April-ish. To avoid 'over-listening' to Death Cab, i wanna know bands people get into that have relationships to Death Cabs music.
So.. i was hoping people could suggest some artists that sound similar to Death Cab for Cutie. Any thoughts??? "If we seem nutty to you, and if we seem like an oddball to you, just remember one thing; the mighty oak tree was once a nut like me."- Glenn W. Turner |

Death Cab are so unique it's hard to find something that is very similar. But the Stars, the Postal Service (despite it being electronic), and Tegan and Sara are bands that i listen to that you can compare to Death Cab.

The Decemberists can sound similar AT TIMES. Eef Barzelay is very good, too. His latest solo album, while not as good as his first, has some Death Cabby moments.

There is Chris walla's solo album, Postal Service (as has been stated), Home v5, and maybe some other stuff. You might try Rilo Kiley... they don't necessarily have a similar sound, but there are some connections somewhere I think... The Execution of all things is my fav. There are actually a couple of Japanese bands tah tI get a Death Cab vibe from: Asian Kung Fu Generation's Fan Club album and some Remioromen stuff.
On an unrelated note, i like: Steely Dan's Aja and The Royal Scam (and sometimes) Gaucho albums The Beatles's Rubber Soul, Abbey Road, and Sgt. Pepper albums The Beach Boys's Pet Sounds album The Band's The Band The Big Pink and Nothern Lights Southern Cross albums (ultrautsukushii) |

Loads of American indie bands sound a little similar to Death Cab. It's hardly like Death Cab are re-inventing the wheel of modern music...a couple of bands who I think have the potential to be evolve into a bigger band (like DCFC) is Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin and Headlights.
To be honest a few bands have a lo-fi guitar based sound similar to Death Cab, I hear alot of Pavement and Pixies in Death Cab's approach to music. Recently bands like Arcade Fire, The Shins, British Sea Power have released albums which take indie to the next level, I think anyway. |
