According to the fan club,
"Death Cab's music video for "I Will Possess Your Heart", directed by Aaron Stewart-Ahn and Shawn Kim, will be premiering tomorrow (April 11th) on MTV.com and VH1.com at 12noon (EST) and also be available for purchase on iTunes on April 15th." I saw the video tonight via the fan club web site, and I was really impressed by their energy playing this song. A bit disappointed in the lack of narrative structure or metaphor in the video. Can't wait to see them play it live later this month at the Filmore! This message has been edited. EDIT:
i actually liked the video... i sorta pictured this song having a video where they are playing in it... so that makes me like it more i guess... 2 things: A)is that the same girl from the "A Movie Script Ending" video? b)is there anyway i can marry her? I liked it. It could've used more shots of the band, at least for longer intervals, but it was cool. Chris looked genuinely freezing.

Bummer - I can't believe someone from the fan club would leak this. I wasn't going to say anything about the content until tomorrow when it is officially released, but I guess if it's out...
Didn't mean to imply I didn't like the video - as I posted in the fan club boards, I especially liked the cinematography and lighting. The editing was fantastic, especially around the transition to the lyrics. I liked the symmetry of Ben walking in at the beginning and the girl walking out at the end. The natural lighting (I assume it was natural?) at all the girl's locations across the globe was beautiful. It was especially nice in contrast to the harsh contrast-y light of the band playing in the freezer. I couldn't tell if the shots of the girl were supposed to be from an observer's point of view, as if she were being followed. I could imagine her distracted expressions and backward glances were about her being worried that someone might be stalking her as she goes across the globe. My biggest question was why the smiles for about 10 seconds in the middle, and then back to the flat expression for the rest? I was hoping for some resolution, but maybe "No Country For Old Men" has made that passe and I'm just missing something... Oh, and my favorite part is the snow/ice/water bouncing off the drums. What was the temperature in that room?!? This message has been edited. OK - I see where I sound silly. I guess it's just me being naively disappointed that a big fan wouldn't have more respect for the video premiere tomorrow and appreciation that it was shown to the union members a day early.

The fan club is a joke. People have to pay $40-$50 to get stale news, a forum that doesn't work half the time and a one day head start on a music video. I guess it's just me being naively disappointed that Death Cab wouldn't have more respect for their fans.

well come on... who wouldn't want to be considered a "big fan" for that much money? especially with all that info.

Yeah, I was hoping for Gibbs to appear out of nowhere, like as a cab driver with a fake beard or just jumping out of a bush or chasing her or something. That would have been great. This video was kind of meh. Aaron's videos for Stable Song and The Decemberists were much more entertaining and innovative. It was cool that they filmed all over the place. But I felt like the band jamming in a giant igloo was a little desperate... Whatever, music videos don't make that much difference. I wonder if they'll do another video album, like Directions. "Wide Stairs"? or "Narrow Escalator"? or maybe some title that doesn't suck, actually, that would be sweet. ____________________________________________________________ If it turns out that there is a God, I don't think that he's evil. But the worst that you can say about him is that basically he's an underachiever. |
