When Narrow Stairs was first released I bitched and moaned about how much I hated the album and How sub par it was. I was wrong, it has exploded on me over the last few weeks.
I met C****** 5 1/2 years and went back to her apartment. Being the music snob that I am (no one has better music taste than me right?)I thumbed through her collection mercury rev, pixies, guided by voices cocteau twins badly drawn boy stone roses the smiths so far so good! I found this interesting looking cd called "you can play these songs with chords" "Whats this cd C******?" "Well Michael its this great band called Death Cab For Cutie." Stupid name, if they are so good why dont you have it on vinyl and why havent I heard of them? Ok lets pop it on..........
Three days later came the pilgrimage to tower records to catch up, I wanted more. Love was new and this music was part of the journey. Not long after came all the slander and double speak then came transatlanticism and hope was restored then the glow of taillights fading. In 2005 the moving truck was rented and it was finished. The radio played a song by a new band called death cab for cutie soul meets spotty and once again we were off to tower. We sat in her parents living room listening to plans. We found out a few weeks later that we were "with child" We got married in june 2006 and couldnt agree on which song to get married to so we were greedy and decided not to share "our" band with the attendees. Our daughters first concert was Death Cab with spoon and mates of state although she was underwater. Our Daughter was born December 19th 2006 with slight complications. I came home from the hospital and registered with this board.
We went on with our lives then came narrow stairs.
We hated it for a myriad of reasons but never listened to it together. Why is Ben so bitter? Has Ben sold out? In truth it was the mirror that we didnt want to look at it was the divorce album, we had the love album, the hope album, the hope album the plans album. As the lawyers now dissect our words and our possessions. Its has all been a vivid photo album.
EEk, I like Death Cab. But analyzing your relationship in terms of Death Cab albums is...a little bit off, in my opinion.

The tail lights fading east is probably about the same thing The District Sleeps Alone is about-- someone's girlfriend moving away (to washington DC). So that doesn't fit in too well.
