oh, that was neat.

What the hell.... why would they even go to the trouble of recording a song that's only a minute long (ya it really ends at 1 minute).
Seems like a wastee of studio time unless they were trying out a new sound or something. I vote they should finish writing the damned song...it's obviously a fragment that just never got developed. Maybe we'll see it appear on the new album?? When exactly was this song recorded again? I think it's an issue of taste, but I think the bass sounds like shit~ I think it sounds like that thunderbird bass of his but played so hard that the strings are hitting the pickups. I like the song, and I enjoy it. Maybe they thought it felt done. I think it does. There have been shorter songs recorded. That's about as long as a ton of the songs on ATQ

You guys should listen to some japanese grindcore! That's like albums with 68 songs of 27 seconds. Crazy shit. Doesn't make sense.

amazon dot com this is what sparked the initial post, i already knew all the other import songs, thanks anyway. but if you see the product description it says there is one, but of course, doesn't tell you what it is. |

That is really strange that it says that... I read the entire description of the one on the Japanese site and the only thing that I saw that was strange was that it was released BEFORE the american one by 3 weeks. Next time I go to the book off near me, I'll check to see if they infact have the Japanese 'import' version and whether or not it has a bonus track. Usually stuff is really cheap there ($2-$20... with a median of $5 haha) so if it comes up maybe we could work something out if you're super interested.

Um...I guess you don't have the ATQ Envelope Sessions. Those songs are like 45 seconds. And Gridlock Caravans was probably recorded around the time of YCPTSWC, so I don't think they had an actual studio. I mean, they recorded most of We Have the Facts in Chris' dining room. So...yeah. --------------------- Big fish eat the little ones. |

I'm gonna join the group of people who like Gridlock Caravans. It is short, but it doesn't sound like a "fragment." I think it's very good. I listened to it on repeat for a little while when I first got it.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good song... but to me it totally sounds like a fragment... I've heard ATQ before and those are pretty good~ they seem a bit more complete than this one. I think when a song is so layered it just doesn't seem right for it to end so soon...
I had no idea that it was recorded way back then though~ 'sounds really nice for back then. I have to admit though, I really like army corps of architects and that is also from then so who knew! I think that a studio is sometimes overrated. The person doing the recording is just as influlential as where the recording is taking place. There are definately benefits to recording in a kitchen over recording in some studios... I think it's just a matter of like aural preference I guess... I'm inclined to believe that one of the reasons why most people like the pristine studio sound is because that's what we're used to. If you listen hard enough to recordings recorded in more unique places you are able to hear just as many nuances and such and even things that you might not've heard in a studio recording. I remember my world music teacher played us a tune that was actually recorded in a post office in ghana where you could hear them using their stamps (think those library stamps) and feet as percussion and whistling as the melodies... it was entirely improved and quite a treat. Anyways... I know I ramble on!! (ultrautsukushii) |

I'm pretty sure it was on the original YCPTSWC cassette. --------------------- Big fish eat the little ones. |

this is turning into a big thing, which is kind of dumb, but i think it was recorded around Stability and the Photo Album. the recordings sound really similar, and ive seen it cited as a bonus track on both. it doesnt sound anything like the stuff on ycptswc

I assumed he meant that it was released with the re-release of YCPTSWC.

dcfc-tour.net says it was recorded in Spring 2001. "An outtake of sorts from the Photo Album, although it was released on vinyl and in Japan."
