It's on YouTube... the version you're referring to was played on Ben's solo shows in 2007.

Good point! I agree.

No crossing the country (alone or otherwise), no taillights fading east to find yourself a better life, no free-spirited driving down an equivilant of the 405.. our country isn't big or diverse enough for any of those terms to fit, and the weather doesn't change enough for us to really mark romances or even moods by the seasons.
The Kerouacian spirit is dead here! All we can do is live it vicariously through Mr.Gibbard.

Check!

But at least we have the Ting Tings. Ha ha.

"They call me her, they call me sta-cy"

Shit shit shit.

Utter shit.
... is it so horrible to admit that I actually really enjoy the Ting Tings? They occupy a very different spot in my enjoyment of music than Death Cab does, but I still dig 'em.

I don't think they were ever going for lyrical brilliance, but I'll be damned if they aren't a perfect soundtrack to a fun time.

Er......yeah, I'll give you that. I have the album too, and I quite like it. Went down a storm at my boy's recent birthday party.

I think that possibly what irritates me about them is that due to the paucity of talent in the UK, they are held in higher esteem than they should be.

IMO home grown talent such as Patrick Wolf and I Am Kloot deserve far more recognition but don't get it.

Maybe it's because 7 year old kids can sing "It's my birth-day" to the tune of "That's not my name".

And the hardest part is yet to come

Anybody have that early version... and could you verify that?

I'm surprised you could come to that conclusion considering the very first post in the thread was about that Razzer

I think the original version is on the gmail account? If not I'll upload it later.

I'll have to check those bands out; but in the meantime, I think the Ting Tings are popular because they're extraordinarily good at being catchy. Furthermore, they're quirkier than you probably think -- for instance, "That's Not My Name" has a lot of weird little undercurrent sounds in it -- listen around two and a half minutes in, there are a slew of bizarre guitar scratches, what sounds like reverse guitar or synth... weird little things. Also, the main riff to "Great DJ" is D-Daug -- which isn't anything I'd expect from a pop band like them.

They list Talking Heads as a big influence, and I believe it.

... I can't believe I'm defending the Ting Tings so staunchly. It probably has something to do with Katie White being so damn cute.

A sophism of madness...

Patrick Wolf is sort of an English version of Andrew Bird. Except not quite so....out there.

His work has gone largely un-noticed for years.

My absolute favorite lyric is from Tiny Vessels: "You are beautiful, but you don't mean a thing to me" followed by "every bite I gave you left a mark, and tiny vessels oozed into your neck and formed the bruises that you said you didn't want to fade, but they did and so did I that day."

The entire song is so delicately harsh. It was the first Death Cab song I ever heard and will always be my favorite.

So basically most of the post-plans lyrics are amongst the worst? If i was Ben and read this thread i would suffer some instant and severe blows to my self-esteem. Well... and so he should, that lazy bastard. Ben, you better have some damn profound things to say about married life or i will turn my back on you.
"Pity, Take pity on me, Because I’m not half the man that I should be"... "Who thinks that life with a nice girl's like, Waiting for a bus to work"... it's hard to see your hero stoop below your own standards. I would have thrown that out, and i don't even have an audience.

I take it it's wrong to hope that zoooooey cheats on him or something terrible like that so he will at least have something to sing about other than kittens and rainbows made of honey?

The whole "love is awesome" thing worked in some strange way on the postal service record, so maybe he can just pull one of those wonders again?

I don't think that would work with Death Cab, as Death Cab's sound is more melancholic than the Postal Service's, while the Postal Service makes more of a euphoric sound. There's something about the Postal Service's sound that compliments happy lyrics, while happy lyrics in a Death Cab song would be out of context.

When lava flows underwater it behaves differently.

Hey everyone! I'm new here! Just thought i'd let ya know haha.

But i think one of my favorites will always be "You may tire of me as our December sun is setting, cause i'm not who i used to be". I don't know, just the way he sings it and the moment of it and everything is just really pretty to me.

And i like Different Names, but it's one of my least favorites of theirs. And i've never really liked how towards the end it just keeps going on and on with "There are different names, there are different names..."...I also really love "With your hands on my shoulders, a meaningless movement, a movie script ending"

But over all i just love their lyrics. Ben is just a genius.

Im new here too. one of my favorite lyrics is
"And it was true that I was truly failing.
But you were gone and I was home
calling around, but nothing was found worthwhile."
i dont know why but to me it just seems to make sense to me. i love most of ben's lyrics. they can be so simple or really deep.

It's all here for you, as long as you choose to stay.
It's all here for you, as long as you don't fly away.

Oh, and i also love "The firemen worked in double shifts with prayers for rain on their lips. They knew it was only a matter of time" It's so heartbreaking, but that whole song is absoloutly beautiful. It's one of my all time favorite songs.

Another one i love is (yeah i just have a bunch!) "I wish we could open our eyes to see in all directions at the same time. Oh what a beautiful view if you were never aware of what was around you" I just think it's so pretty.

Ok, i'm stopping...for now ha.
