am I the only one that really loves "You Can Play These Songs With Chords"?

This Charming Man is the best song on the album.
I love that song so much and kind of wish they had more songs that sounded like that.

Sure it's not the best album(Trans) but it's still remarkable in my book.

Any one else agree with me?

I'm aware it's a cover but they made it sound amazing.

I agree it's a good album. Gotta say 'Wait' is probably my favourite track on it though Hindsight, Kelly Huckaby, Prove my Hypothesis, Army Corps and Line of Best Fit are all great too (i'm drawing from the +10 version)

Their "This Charming Man" sounds just like what it was: Two teenagers punk-jamming their idols to hell. It's terrible, come on, you can't seriously appreciate that as a respectable work of music? He completely fucks up the guitar intro, and Chris attempts to save it with a kitsch organ sound. Sure, Ben and Chris are awesome guitarists today, but i can easily imagine how a young pair of friends would sit around being so captivated by Johnny Marr and Morrisey to the point of just having to imitate what they do. I know that feeling from myself.
But seriously, just listen to how much Chris alters his voice to sound like Morrisey to no avail Smiler. He even fucks up the opening line of the song (which originally reads "punctured bicycle").
I can imagine they put it on Chords with their tongues firmly planted in their cheeks (which is the impression you get from the liner notes as well). It's an interesting and amusing look at the guys who formed Death Cab and their sources of inspiration at the time but hardly a great artistic statement or testament to the quality of Death Cab's music. And they certainly did not do the song justice. Razzer

The album itself is great because of the cd re-issue's tracklist. It provides us with a neat compilation of great rarities (Army Corps, Prove My Hypothesis...) and a unique view of how Ben & Co. got to where they are, which includes some fantastic tracks along the way. I don't think the band would consider it as an actual "album" in the sense that it's a complete thing they would want people to look at as a work of art to put alongside "Airplanes". But I could be wrong...

Since when did people not like it? I love it. There are just a few that I'm not really a fan of.

Ok? Not sure what this means, but I'm sorry in advance then...

Okay, to rephrase myself: I think a lot of people take "Chords" too seriously. I'm not a chords hater, it's not like that.

There are a bunch of people who like it. I personally think the versions on Chords are better than the ones on Airplanes. and all the songs after Tomcat are especially good.

most definitely!

I guess I'd just put it like this: no one really puts Chords as their favorite album or anything, but no one hates it. Its just an old album that has its really good ups and slight downs.

thats my opinion!

I still think it's amazing,
and it makes it sound less "80's" to me.

and haha, let's all just pretend tomcat doesn't exist.
