Is anyone a member? Is it worth it to join?
Thoughts? |

Not worth it. Pre-sale tickets are the only advantage.

I hate to be negative, but they are seriously rubbish. I mean, eight months late on delivering a poster? How hard can it be? How detached from the band must they be to not get their OK prior to the new signing up of this years membership to get an OK on the design and get it out?
Generally the news is out in other places before the Union have it and 20 plus months without opening the store? |

The best (and only) thing I got from my year in the Union Local was the Union t-shirt that I wear to make me feel even more elitist while next to all the people at UK concerts who turn up to hear I Will Follow You Into The Dark.
Only joking with the last bit. It is a nice shirt, but not worth the membership fee. |

Thanks for the comments, I agree the only reason I would join would be for the pre-sale tickets! And maybe the elitist t-shirt. :]

Why would you even want pre-sale tickets? I can't imagine they sell-out of Death Cab tickets in a day or something. They had to downsize a venue on the UK tour.

I only joined for the vinyl.
Death Cab tickets here sold out in a few hours, not that they offer pre-sale to anything outside the US though. |

I never joined by my best friend did and he never saids anythin good about it...same as some of you said...free little doodads here and there..not worth it though

It is not that the shows sell out quickly, but the GOOD seats do. And if I am going to a show I want good seats, dammit! :]

yeah, they do sometimes. you just have to keep refreshing the page until the tickets are up, and you should get some decent ones. that's how I got pit tickets this summer. |

I want to join. I beg my parents =]
They should at least let me go to a concert next time they're in Texas *pout* ----- |

Whatever you do, do NOT join Union Local! It is a total waste of money. I have been a member from the very start and it has been a disaster since day one.
The first year it took months to get our membership packages. The news was usually updated after the official site. There was one contest, I think. The message board is lame and a total bore. The exclusive Union Local shop still hasn't opened. It is absolutely ridiculous. When my membership was up for renewal I wrote Nick and complained about everything. He had a word with management and things were better for a few weeks. I ended up renewing after getting a couple months free and a promise that things would improve. They haven't improved at all. The shop still isn't open. It took nine months to get the renewal membership package. I only got it last week, after sending emails to every email address on the official site. The message board is on it's death bed. Artist Arena has collected $30 per year from 4,000 people. That is $120,000 and they have done nothing with the money other than print up some very simple posters and had some patches made. It is so bad that it makes me sad that it is even associated with DCFC. They deserve so much more. I will never renew my subscription until Artist Arena has been fired, which I doubt will ever happen. I am sure they have some deal with the major label the band are on. I look forward to the day when all these massive labels have imploded, and bands can simply release their own work via the internet. |

The whole idea that someone is a bigger fan than someone else just because they have more money is a ludicrous concept to begin with.

I actually didn't receive any award for being a bigger fan.
Excluding fans from presales or prioritizing based on money is odd, but I think it is done to keep scalpers from getting access to presales. |

I finally got the renewal package in the post yesterday - about nine months late? We were promised an exclusive lithograph (poster). There were bootleg copies available outside UK shows months ago.
I was underwhelmed, to say the least. They claimed that the delay was due to getting the OK for the design from the band. Turns out the design is just the Union logo. Wonder why the band had to ponder so long on that one? Frankly I don't believe that the delay could have been anyway associated with the band. They also said "The upcoming year is going to be even bigger and better than you can imagine - more touring, presale ticket information, monthly contests, private and exclusive fan club message board." Monthly contests? There was at least one (and it was in a month - but is that an accurate description). I can imagine a better service, so the claim fails on that ground to. The band really need to change their supplier, bin it or disassociate themselves from it at least. |
