Does anybody else think that it's really lame that we need to pay $30 a year just to join the Death Cab fan club? It just seems so...uncool, I guess, that they would make us pay for something like that. I can't be a devoted fan just because I can't afford it? I think thats lame.

Yes the union is uncool, desperately uncool but it is a way of showing who the o.c. suckers are and who are cool enough not to think that paying $30 will make them a "real fan".

Yeah I see what you mean but that means that the O.C. suckers who's parents pay the $30 for them are getting some pretty cool stuff. Not to mention some insider information and presale opportunities. I think us broke fans are just as deserving as these trendy bastards.

They don't get anything, all they get is in their heads.

Haha I wish that were true but they really do get some cool merch sent to them and they get pre sale tickets like 2 days before us. It says they get some insider news before us, but I'm not sure how true that is. I don't know, I just never really thought death cab would be the type band to do that. It's not like they need the money. Is the fact that we buy all their albums and go to every show we can not enough?

Any news is here first anyway, any merchandise they get is superficial and as for tickets the day death cab become ben gibbard solo we won't have to worry about tickets selling out for a while!

Bullshit haha, everyone of Ben's solo shows sold out within the first week on his last solo tour. I was pissed. You're right though, I guess I dont really care about the merchandise and stuff. I think it just kind of bothers me that they even want people to pay to join a fan club.

It's not the band who set it up, it's just a by product of all that has come to pass.

It's the only fan club I have ever paid to join. I thought the first year was good vale - especially the 7" and the pre-sale. This years offer is less enticing - a poster and a patch? Its a bit pooh and pirety.

You'd think Ben wouldn't let something like that get created. I would think he wouldn't care about the extra 30 bucks, its not like its making a huge difference in his income lol.

Honestly, I signed up the second I knew Death Cab would be in my town so I could secure pit tickets three days before anyone who didn't join the fan club.

plus I'm getting a t-shirt and crap sent to me. I know it's lame but I don't care- it secured my tickets and for me, that's worth it.

and I hope
you have
more luck with this than me.

yeah, i only joined last year to get the 7".

we don't get any exclusive information, or any information before the general public gets it at all. if anything our "news" gets posted a week after it's done the rounds on the official website / myspace /etc.

the only thing we do get is the presale tickets and that "ask the band" section.

As long as the boards don't get taken down to be replaced by some sort of pay fan board, I'm good. I haven't worn a death cab shirt/pin/sticker in 4 years and don't plan on it again. Pre-sale tickets don't really do it for me, if you want tickets to a show just pay attention to when they go on sale.
