Title Track (user, not the song), I only have one problem with what you have said. I can't imagine the line: "Talking how the group had begun to splinter." meaning a splinter group. IMO, thats grasping at too many straws (although I'm sure I've grasped a few during my argument). I believe it just refers to how the two of them are sitting together talking at a party and the group/party slowly starts to slim down to just the two of them. On another note, I absolutely love your artwork idea. I never even thought of the lines underneath to show the progression of the relationship.

meandthesea, did you even bother to read my arguement? I stated that I KNOW the song has been publicly stated to be about Lou Reed. I'm not arguing that. All I'm hypothesizing is that there is a smaller hidden part to the song that relates to the overall story. I also never said No Joy is about murder. I said it's about (IMO) the man realizing he cannot go on without her and since he can't have her, he decides no one can.

The support for this hypothesis is in the part about Lou Reed. He dreams he was him, acting tough in his black glasses and attitude, but he finds he can't do it. He finds he has too much inner turmoil to change his persona. Please re-read my support for NJIM and get back to me.

we barely touched on it. all we have is your idea that he is voting to kill her and my idea that they are voting to break up.

i want to go into further detail. what does voting and facts and all that jazz have to do with it.

I interpreted Scientist Studies literally :P

It makes sense, I mean, "What ghosts exist...explanation"
The scientist's eternally journey to prove what cannot be proved.
"Cause I scrimped...inventions"
Pretty straightforward...trying to fund his rent, but people are steling his ideas. (I actally had an idea for a book that had this idea)
"so you slept....first defense"
His girlfriend is very supportive of him and helps fund it, but...
"a four-year offense...invitation"
This is my favorite lyric ever. She leaves him and gets married within four years. She invites him out of nessecity, but he knows he is not welcome there.
"I thought...time"
He's drunk, and asking her if they could give it another go. After she totally refuses him, he drives home and crashes himself into a tree or something on purpose.

NOTE: I may be repeating what others have said, btu this is what comes to MY mind when I hear the song. I also feel that the album as a whole is not nessecarily in order, or about the same person. ie..."crashing through the parlor doors" could easily come to play in scientist studies....

P.S. Sorry if this was already asked, but what do you think of the title of the album? How is it significent?
P.P.S. I have never listened to No Joy In Mudville..I always skip it...i dunno why...

You should listen to it the whole way through. I always used to skip it too, but I listened to it and I liked it a lot. It starts out slow and calm, but then builds up.

Oh and ThePastAndPending, I'm guessing your username is in referance to the Shins song? It's one of my favorite songs right now..

I listened to it, and I have missed out....the only reason, is cuz I am forcing myself to listen to all my songs all the way through...I'm currently at 315/1193...

as for more analysis.... I think it has all been covered....because of this thread though, Facts is now my fav album ever, and I listen to it frequently, as if it were a book...
