Heres a link for anyone who needs it;
http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/08...hris-walla-to-death/

I love the band.
I'm obssessed with Death Cab and I respect every member of the band.

But what Chris said was really dissapointing.
The maturity level was quite low and not really what I'd expect from him.

Yeah he doesn't have to vote for McCain, but have some respect.
I honestly don't like any of the candidates, but the things he said were very inmature and not respectful.

Vote for who you want, but don't be like that.

Anyone else get the same feeling from the article?

... erhm, maybe, but could you maybe point out some places where you thought he was out of line and try to keep in mind that he was asked to do a subjective blog for a rock n' roll magazine... 's website.

America's political 'system' is a bit of a farce though to be fair. I'd be pretty pissed off if the same type of shenanigans went on in Australia come election time (I assume they will begin to do so in a few years time). But no, you're right TheNewYear, how dare Chris Walla have an opinion, after all he's just a guitarist in a band AMIRITEYO?!

But yeh totally immature and not respectable, it's not like the guy he's critisizing told a rather crude joke about bestiality rape, or a 'you so ugly' joke about a certain ex-president's daughter...OH WAIT! Oh but shit, I'm forgetting that that guy was a POW! Holy shit I'm so sorry! I forgot you're not allowed to think POW's are dicks.

Although, Sarah Palin, now there's a VPILF, good work John! Who can guess who her husband works for? BP? No way! As a couple they've obviously followed the celebrity child naming policy. 'Track' & Field, 'Trig'onometry and buffy favourites piper and willow!

No but fuck chris walla (and not in a good way)

No doubt Brian will delete this (like he does everything else I spend a GREAT deal of time typing!) as I am clearly a homophobic hambeast who hates kittens.

Good day

"If you’d just provide some honesty, and be respectful of your opponent and show some dignity, I wouldn’t feel the need to be such an asshole about all this."

Chris Walla knows he's being an asshole. He doesn't care.

Just admitting he's being an asshole doesn't make it right?
And its giving democrats a bad name and just making the whole party look unjust.

And trust me, if he was talking about Obama then I'd say the same thing.

Hah, I'm not going to delete it... it's your opinion. Other things I've deleted (And I don't recall deleting any of your posts... probably wasn't me) were offensive to people here. If you've got a problem, PM me.

Anyways, I read that interview and I don't see anything where I thought it was really harsh. Yeah he's got a strong opinion, that's his right.

I am a democrat and are voting for Obama, but i do agree that Walla was acting increadiby smug in that blog. Like you said, he was giving democrats a bad name by acting so superior. I believe in Obama, but i don't hate McCain and i do think he deserves some respect, and no offense, but Chris is just a guitarist of a rock n roll band that frankly is going in a direction i don't like.

he only seems like he's acting superior because mccain is that much of a retard. seriously, there is no good reason to vote for mccain over obama. none. and personally i think mccain gives all of us much more disrespect than the respect he 'deserves.'

*ah you're right, i was thinking only about death cab albums not field manual, touche. walla, you're the man.

This is one of those very rare occasions I find myself agreeing with Alex. It shits me when Americans (particularly Republicans) talk about 'democracy' but as soon as anyone disagrees with them they are labeled 'Un-American' or an arsehole. It's a political debate where there are two sides to every story.

So therefore if I say (with my two degrees in political science) that McCain and his Monty Pythonesque Veep (by name and by nature) do not have the policies or the vision to lead the world's only superpower, I guess I am an arsehole too? Obama is by no means my desirable candidate, but he's a lot better than a hawk who has by his own admission no knowledge of the economy, and a running mate who has even less knowledge about foreign policy than the amateurish Obama. By the way she still believes global warming does not exist.

That's the argument that makes sense to me after following the Presidential race for the past 20 months as part of my job.

Hang on, did I mention how much of an arsehole I am?

It's really disrespectful to hate on people's beliefs.

They can believe what they want, and they don't need inmature name calling and using F when it really isn't needed.

I really prefer McCain over Obama, but I'm not republican.
My friends talk bad about Obama and it's just annoying because most people are naive when it comes to what the candidates believe in.

So the point of this thread was to say Walla went overboard and made a fool out of his party.
He's my hero, but it really wasn't needed.

I respect that people have different political views, but that was way out of line imo.

P.s. This election is getting alot of publicity in Australia. They're treating it like its our own.

also i think walla has done well in keeping his political views and his music separated. walla, you're the man.

When your playing your music at the Democratic Convention, talking about why Obama needs to be president while your promoting a new record, making a solo album that is increadibly political, and using your status as a musician to rant your political opinion on a blog, i think your not very good at keeping your politics and music seperate.

I like that his politics and music are intertwined. Where would the music industry be without 'A Change is Gonna Come' or 'Blowin in the Wind' generally speaking?

The politically minded songs that Chris writes are one of the reasons I think Field Manual is so good.

I wasn't saying it's bad that his music is political, i was just saying its wrong to say he's kept them seperate, which he hasn't. I love Field Manual, especially St. Modesto.
