Alright, well I was just curious to see how long the majority of the members here have been a fan of the band. I'm sure this has been discussed but I just wanted to start a general poll.

Question:
When did you REALLY first start listening to DCFC?

Choices:
2007-2008
2005-2006
2003-2004
2001-2002
1999-2000
1998 (or even earlier - wow - this would be impressive)

2003-2004 I think. Around when Trans came out, my sister introduced me to Title and Registration.

Mid-late 2005. I am lame. Haha.
I downloaded four random songs (Photobooth, Sound of Settling, We Looked Like Giants, Tiny Vessels) and really liked them, so I got a copy of Plans, bought Trans, went to a concert, bought more CDs, went to more concerts, etc., etc.

Right around when "Transatlanticism" came out. I was playing in a band, and the drummer showed me the clip of them playing "Title and Registration" on McEnroe. He asked me if I wanted to see them in the fall (it was the summer), and I said yes. I got a copy of "Transatlanticism," and proceeded on to "Photo Album" and "We Have the Facts..." before we went to the show, which was incredible. ("The Employment Pages" opened the show. Incredible.)

A sophism of madness...

^^ Me too Ashley. But here's a little fairytale for you kids:

Living in denmark exposure to Death Cab for Cutie was a perk limited to indie record importers, internet bloggers and generally indie pop semi-fanatics. I didn't become neither of those until around late 2006, and Death Cab got no press here until Plans came out. When that happened I read about them in a magazine, remembered their name, i wondered what they sounded like, but that was in the days where if i didn't buy something, i didn't listen to it (i wasn't on myspace yet either). So i didn't do anything about it, and continued fiercely pursuing everything Radiohead and (danish band) Mew had ever released.

Then one night in a school holiday week (early 2006?) around 1:30 am, MTV aired their (only) weekly hour of alternative music videos when "Crooked Teeth" came on. Something about that unusually catchy melody, those quirky lyrics, that unexpected weezer'esque guitar bridge/solo, and that ridiculous-but-awesome sledgehammer tribute of a video hit me like a slap in the face... i bought Plans and then went from Airplanes through every album and every EP over the course of two months. Love. It was love. Unfortunately i missed their only danish performance that summer at the Roskilde Festival and i have yet to be able to see them... Frowner

I got into them about 2003-2004,

my neighbor had just gotten Transatlanticism and we listened to it while we were driving to a soccer game. Title and Registration blew me away, and from there I went on to buy all their albums, about one every month.

2005 for me. Soul Meets Body is what made me check them out. I technically heard T+R on The OC when I passed by my sister watching it, but I disliked the show so much that I didn't stick around to really hear it.

I heard Lack of Color when it first came out, but my musical side was hidden at that point in my life... it wasn't until Soul Meets Body that I checked them out, and I am so glad I did... I just wish I gave them a chance earlier...

September 2006, when a friend of mine told me they were good. So I bought Plans, and liked it, so I went and bought all the other albums over the next 6 months or so.

A friend of mine gave me The Photo Album in September of 2003. I remember listening to that album over and over and over through my entire trip to England that month. It's still my favorite.

And perhaps some of the band members voted for pre-1998? :P
