Just letting everyone know who's attending the Chicago show at Millenium Park, but the forcast is calling for strong storms, bascically the entire Chicago area is colored red on a map for tomarrow night Mad If my memory is correct there is no cover over any of the seating areas (seats and lawn). I'm wondering if it gets really bad if they will post-pone the show or move it???

interesting thought about moving it...
i'm not sure how early they would have to decide to do that and how they would be able to inform everyone, but a lot of venues are empty tomorrow. places like the riviera, congress, logan square auditorium and, gulp, aragon.

i wonder if they would consider doing that based on the frightening forecast.

My ticket says Rain or Shine.

I worry about the metal design of that pavilion though. That thing must be a lightning magnet...

The pavilion is covered. The lawn is not (nor can you see the stage from the lawn). Last year it rained when the Decemberists played there. The show went on. Hopefully the weather behaved tonight.

The pavillion does not look to be covered unless they've made some changes recently: Looking at a couple of pictures here, it doesn't look covered. Also, if you look at the satellite image on Google Maps, you can look right down on the seats:

I'm in seats and it looks like I'll get rained on...

Anyone know when doors open for this?

From the Millenium Park website:

Q: Do the Pavilion's seats provide any cover from the rain? What is the rain policy?
A: The Pritzker Pavilion's open-air seating is a significant part of the experience it was designed to provide, with stars overhead and the city's skyline as a backdrop. In the event of rain, the great lawn under the trellis has a high-tech design with underlying layers of sand and gravel that allows water to drain quickly. Concerts and performances in the pavilion are held rain or shine.

i wish they would re-schedule this. it's going be awful. seriously, i don't care how big of a fan you are, if it's pouring all afternoon and continues during the show, it's not going to be fun.

and it's going to be pretty empty because a lot of people are going to bail. so, for the bands, what's the point of playing?

The radar makes it look like it will stop raining soon and we might get this thing in, that is if there are no other tstorms this afternoon...

This is how the good people at Milenium Park responded to my question about umbrellas.

Greetings:

Correct no umbrellas are allowed in the Pavilion or Great Lawn. The pavilion and Great Lawn are not covered at all. Ponchos/rain coats are allowed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Thank you
Millennium Park

RE: umbrellas

i just talked to mike at the Millennium Park welcome center and he said you can bring umbrellas into the show, but you cannot open them during the show "for obstruction purposes."

soooo...don't be afraid to carry one for on your way to/from the show, but bring a raincoat for during the concert.
