Here's the setlist from 7/5/09 @ The Hollywood Bowl:
Marching Bands of Manhattan
Your Heart Is an Empty Room
The New Year
Crooked Teeth
President Of What?
No Sunlight
Photobooth
Summer Skin
I Will Possess Your Heart
Little Bribes
Cath...
The Sound Of Settling
(short break)
-------
*The following with The LA Philharmonic:
I Will Follow You Into The Dark
You Can Do Better Than Me
Grapevine Fires
Title and Registration
A Movie Script Ending
Soul Meets Body
Transatlanticism.

--------

A very short show. The crowd was very subdued. The first part without the LA Phil was very good. I Will Possess Your Heart was the highlight. IMO, the second part with the LA Phil didn't always work. The arrangements on the uptempo songs were off and the timing was bad. The sound mix was poor and you couldn't hear Ben. The band seemed distracted. Title and Registration was very disappointing. You Can Do Better/Grapevine Fires was good. Transatlanticism was incredible with fireworks.

Thanks for posting the setlist. This was my first show and I was wondering if it was typical for shows to be this short. I agree with many of your points, even as a first-timer. Still... overall, a great show for me and I look forward to seeing them again! Smiler

woah woah woah.
The rendition of Transatlanticism was the most beautiful thing I have ever heard/witnessed ever.
It had fucking fireworks!

Honestly, guys, I'm sorry to everyone on here, but you will never be able to experience Transatlanticism like it was played tonight. The strings were fabulous, fireworks were going off. God.

It sounded unrehearsed. The arrangements were off and the timing was bad. The sound mix was poor and you couldn't hear Ben. The band seemed distracted. Title and Registration was very disappointing. spot on!

too short! my expectations weretoo high i guess with the orchestra....but still, fantastic show.
holly Bowl is the biggest ripoff venue.

I agree with Justin. Transatlanticism was enough for the whole night. That was a one-time chance to see/hear it like that. Unfuckingbelievable.

However, show was shortFrowner

Yeah, I can hear some of your complaints, but honestly, Transatlanticism was so unbelievably beautiful that it made it everything worth it. The sound mixing complaint...not so sure about. You must have been unbelievably close or far, because I could hear him perfectly, in fact at some points I thought it was too loud.

I'm sure videos will pop up on facebook, but I have a low quality video, with somewhat good quality audio if you guys want to here. PM your email.
It'll give you a good idea of how beautiful the strings were behind it.

For those who weren't there...how long was the show? Weren't T&S and Pornographers supporting? That's pretty sweet that it had fireworks.

Justine what did your gf think?

Started at 7. New Pornographers played until 7:35. Tegan and Sara got on around 7:45, and played till 8:30. Death Cab got on around 8:50, and played until a little before 10:30.

And Alex, I no longer have a girlfriend--she screwed me over...repeatedly.

ummm, that seems like a pretty normal length show. DCFC played 19 songs. That's about how many they normally play.

Oh that's right, shit, I just remember reading you saying you were going to take her to this show. You should get a newer hotter one so you can make the ex feel like the worthless tramp that she is!

Wow, I thought it was absolutely incredible from beginning to end, even if it wasn't always perfect. The New Pornographers and Tegan and Sara were both awesome. Death Cab was aMAZing live, and the L.A. Phil really worked in some places if not in others. Grapevine Fires and Transatlanticism in particular were the real standouts with the orchestra. Wasn't a huge fan of the orchestra added to IWFYITD and Title and Registration (just didn't seem to fit right), but Grapevine and Trans totally made up for it. Anyone notice that Sound of Settling seemed a bit off? Really could have used something from Facts, but oh well. Also, Ben's voice seemed spot on tonight. Far better than most of what I've heard from recorded live shows.

For some reason, it did seem like a really short show, and I'm not sure why. Maybe it was that division.

I loved it though. I preferred the second half with the orchestra. The guys just seemed more into it, and that they were having a good time. One thing that my friend pointed out, was that there seemed to be a lack of slow songs. And I didn't notice it, but when he pointed it out, I started to think that their setlist would benefit from a Passenger Seat-esque song thrown in every so often.

But really, it was a great experience--a once in a lifetime one in fact, and I highly doubt that I will experience a concert moment ever again that was more beautiful than Transatlanticism with the orchestra.

Alex, I'm going on a date this week--she likes Death Cab and reads Kerouac, and is mighty fine. Hellz fucking yeah.

That's a really terrible setlist, I'm actually glad I didn't go now. Still, it would've been nice to hear the orchestra, especially because that's the only time YCDBTM has been played.

Hmmm... I'm not so bummed about missing out now that I've seen the setlist.

When I saw Bright Eyes/LA phil show, the entire show was played with the orchestra sans the 2-song encore. Was expecting this to be more like that.

Did 'You Can Do Better Than Me' go down ok with the orchestra?

First, thank you so much for the pictures.
You Can Do Better Than Me/Grapevine actually worked well with the orchestra. The tempo or melodic nature of those songs seemed to work better than Title/Movie Script/Soul. Transatlanticism was awesome, but for me, the fireworks distracted rather than added. I am no doubt in the minority on this opinion. But still, DCFC is a great band. I love 'em.
