It's 07.50, and because we have kids in the house I am up. Wa-hey.
Briefly, the band last night were brilliant. Exceeded my expectations I can tell you. Never seen Rock City so packed. The trainspotters among you may like to know that they played what I think was Technicolor Girls. Sorry if I'm wrong, but I've not yet become as familiar with pre-Photo album stuff as I am with the later output. Someone will correct me. Anyway, Ben did say that he thought they had never played the song in the UK before! Only downside was not getting to see the early part of the gig. Evidently Rock City have a 9.30 curfew on Saturday nights, but don't bother to notify anyone on the ticket. Good job I'm going to Sheffield on Monday. Expo 86 was fab, by the way. And the hardest part is yet to come |

In comparison with the other two Death Cab concerts I've attended (one at the Manchester Academy in early 2006, the other at the Apollo this past July), last night personally wasn't as emotionally engaging or exceptional, more Death Cab-by-numbers.
The set was quite skewed towards the 'safe' songs, I thought, which I say despite the fact they played The Employment Pages and Technicolor Girls, which not many people appeared to know at all. There was no real 'curveball' that maybe something like We Laugh Indoors would have brought, and I miss Ben's drum solo in We Looked Like Giants! It all seemed a little strangely paced and drifted by rather quickly. Maybe when I write the setlist out, you'll see what I mean. I suppose I was just a little disillusioned because I've seen them twice already now, I'm used to the more raucous atmosphere that comes with a concert in Manchester, and because the band, to me, seemed a little low-key. Don't get me wrong; it was still a great performance, just not as personally eventful as the two I attended before! Setlist (which I will post in the other thread shortly): The Employment Pages Your Heart is an Empty Room The New Year Why You'd Want to Live Here Crooked Teeth No Sunlight Grapevine Fires Summer Skin Soul Meets Body I Will Follow You into the Dark I Will Possess Your Heart Cath... We Looked Like Giants Company Calls Long Division The Sound of Settling Encore: Technicolo(u!)r Girls Title and Registration Expo '86 Transatlanticism P.S. I think I've realised what Nottingham did wrong... No Movie Script Ending! Company Calls came too late and Your Heart is an Empty Room much too early. It dragged the introduction down a little. I repeat: still a good concert though! P.P.S. Was it just me or is the Frightened Rabbit drummer reminiscent of the Cadbury gorilla?! This message has been edited. Last edited by: thecomaboy, |

Haha me and my friends were talking about this in the car on the way home after!, also by the end of Transatlanticism the same could be said for Jason who was going mental on the drums !! absolutely awesome gig.! |
