I went to the shows at the El Rey and Bimbo's and took some pictures: 10/23/09 El Rey, 10/24/09 Bimbo's.

I went to the show in SF and i thought it was pretty weak. I thought all of the farrars guys music was terrible, and only liked a few of the other songs. I honestly enjoyed the john's set way more, ben should have played some other songs. It was pretty cool how john asked for requests and his interaction with crowd was awesome.

Youtube post of CIA is very good. Me reckons that Ben wishes he had written this song for Death Cab, maybe circa Transatlanticism. And the hardest part is yet to come |

Yeah. But I just hope they release this version some how. Like on a radio session maybe... *hint hint* Wait, I doubt they read the boards... Dang it! lol I wish the world was flat like the old days. |

Just checked those great photo's out. I'm not a camera nerd at all, but have a decent SLR camera. How do you get shots like those? And the hardest part is yet to come |

Sticking it on a good old fashioned b-side would work just fine! And the hardest part is yet to come |

According to the merch guy at the Largo show, the edition size of the poster is 60. I believe they sold out at either the El Rey show or the San Francisco show.. The poster was made for the entire tour, but some shows won’t have an opportunity to purchase one. And Couches In Alleys was phenomenal; listening to that song twice, live, was just incredible. They did a great job adapting it for the tour. I hope somebody was able to record it.. I really liked John Roderick's sets. I think the best way to describe him is witfully quirky. His set at Largo was longer than the El Rey, or at least it seemed that way. I purchased one of his books and asked him to sign it at the El Rey. I wish I had stuck around a little longer at Largo to chit chat with him.. Nice guy, very approachable and reciprocates well. |

Thank you. Well, although I love photography, I'm not a professional (the only SLR I own is a Ricoh that's older than I am) so a lot of the time I actually just use a small point-and-shoot (Nikon S550) which is good when I'm trying to be stealth. And it usually works well for gigs on the high ISO setting. That's the one I used at Bimbo's. At the El Rey however, I used my Canon SX110IS which is a bidge camera (combines a p&s with manual elements similar to an SLR) and had it set to shutter speed priority. So all I had to do was adjust shutter speed and sometimes bump the ISO (mostly kept it at 400 or 800). The camera also has a nice 10x optical zoom, so I was able to get those close-ups on Ben and Jay's faces. Although being front and center certainly helped as well. |
