Hey all,

I am going to a general admission show in May and was hoping for some advice since every concert I have ever been to I have had an actual seat. I am traveling a bit to get to this show so I want to make sure I get a decent seat/spot to stand in.

The show starts at 8, doors open at 7. What tine should I get there?

Usually you're pretty safe two hours in advance of door time.

The earlier the better, as you might have a chance at the front row.
I barely made front row and lined up at 4pm. (someone will beat you there, no matter how early you get there.)
So crazy early times are just if you want a place near the stage.
If you plan on taking a "floor"/close spot:

plan on:
being squished.(at least part time)
people will probably be touching you at some point, or even for long periods of time, varying from an arm to an entire body pressed against you, to someone trying to shove in front of you.

you probably will be hot,no matter how cold it is outside.

being there for all the opening bands.

People squish together closer as opening act nears.

Comfortable shoes a +

Large, strong, friends are a +.
Do not drink much water/tea etc, you can't get in and out of crowd easily. Just saying.

Some general admission shows do still have seating towards the back, and they are still a good view.
Observe the venue rules early. you don't want to lose your spot in line because you had to stash a camera/backpack/stedicam etc.
Most people were pretty cool and friendly, but there is always someone shoving to the front at the last minute. If you leave them space, they will take it.

I went to a death cab concert in April and I really wanted to be front row so I went about 4 hours early and there were people already there. I did manage to get front row though! Good Luck!
Also, I found I had quite a bit of space, but the people in the 2nd and 3rd rows were extremely squished..

Possibly useful tip depending on where you end up in line: Don't forget to check if there are open places in the fron row at either side of th stage. For some reason people often bunch up in the middle many rows back before the front sides fill in.

Yes I am going tonight in Austin! It is sold out. I am not sure what time we will be getting there. Definitely early though! I don't necessarily want to be front row-just close! Good luck to you! Wink

Dont wash for at least a week prior to the show and eat lots of burritos. Dont be afraid to "cut loose" Trust me you will get the room all the way to the front.

So funny that you said that... someone near us was farting the entire time. It was hilarious. Everyone kept looking at each other as though they could somehow identify the culprit.

Hahaha! That's hilarious because I kept smelling that too! I was smack dab in the middle, second row of people front the front.

I thought the show was legendary! They were SO much more energetic than when I saw them in December. The whole band was really feeling it I think. And the crowd was generally great.

Story. I got there at 3:30, and while we were waiting around, my friend got invited to their sound check party!!! The guys played 3 songs for us and about 10 other people, then we got to meet them and take pictures with them! It was incredible. So if you heard a guy in line boasting about how that happened, that was me haha!

I totally agree. I saw them in December as well (in Dallas). I am so jealous that you were able to go to the sound check-but that is awesome!

Oh and I was off to the right, right in front of Chris. About 4 rows back.
