What did everyone think of the venue? It was my first time seeing a show there, and I thought it was a great place. Of course I was up close in section 106, but I'm curious to hear other opinions...

Really amazing show. I was row L, very good seats. The sound was great. My husband said when he walked back into the lawn the sound was also really good there. It went by way too fast, I want more Death Cab... so sad it's over.

I thought it was a good show overall. I was in row W of section 105 and the sound was great over there.

and the lawn was just as wonderful. they talk about the amazing drainage system...and they're not lying. it was perfect.
and the fog looked cool rolling across the trellis above. |

I guess I have to be the downer on this topic. I was at the show in section 205 row hh, so not too far but not that close either (I personally feel the first section should have been $45, and the 2nd section like $25 or 30).
Anyway, the Venue is definetly very cool and almost like sitting inside a piece of artwork or something--but perhaps that was the problem for me....Death Cab just seemed out of place there, there was like 8,000 people there (alot of parents I think!) and I just never felt the crowd was that into it at all. Plus I think the sound was good, but I think they sounded better indoors at the Riv a few years ago. I also though they played OK. I mean I expected alot of stuff from the new album--but would have maybe liked to hear a little more from Plans like What Sarah Said. I digged the shout out to Obama, but overall I'd have to give the whole show (venue included) a solid B. |

I agree it was definitely a small place with 4,000 in pavilion seats and 7,000 in lawn seats. I still dug the show though.

Well, pretty much any show at an outdoor or large venue has the problem of a crowd that doesn't seem too into it. At any larger show, you look at the crowd and it's just a sea of people standing there, not moving. At smaller venues it's different because you're all shoved into a smaller area and the energy is contagious.
As for the song balance, I thought it was surprisingly fair to the back-catalog. There were 6 songs from the new album, 5 from Plans, and 11 from the previous albums. And 22 songs is a decent length for most bands. We can all second guess the choice of songs but they can't play all the favorites so as long as they keep the show relatively balanced, I think it's fair. But yeah, I did notice a lot of parents! And some of those kids made me feel oooooooold. There were three girls behind me that couldn't have been more than 13 years old (with Dad, of course). He seemed more into the show than the girls. |

Once I looked over the setlist more this morning--I guess they did cover a pretty good range of material.
I guess as I get older and these bands attract newer younger fans--you'll see alot of parents. At the last Jimmy Eat World Show at the Riv--there was alot of parents there too. |

Before playing Transatlanticism, Ben said they were giving us a treat. Do they not play that often?
As for the show, i thought it was good too, but to be honest the group didn't really seem that into either. I was on lawn and couldn't really see them so maybe my perspective is not accurate. |

Walla's guitar was sitting below the mix, and his lines on songs like The New Year and 405 were almost undetectable to me in the lawn. I was really hoping he would get a boost mid show but I didn't happen.
I was very pleased with the song choice, the length of the show, the spot on vocals of Gibbard and the atmosphere. I agree that the crowd was not totally sold, but at the same time live Death Cab in a venue such as Pritzker Pavilion is terribly romantic and I enjoyed singing in my girlfriends ear. Long Live Death Cab for Cutie. |

They play it pretty much every show... --------------------- Big fish eat the little ones. |

I know it wasn't really much of a choice at this venue, but that's often helped quite a bit by standing in the front. That's where the fans go, so there's good energy.
What'd they say? I was wondering if it would be mentioned.
Like Brian said, they play it at nearly every show. Did members from opening bands come out to sing with him? Sometimes they do that, and I suppose he could have been referring to that. |

Couldn't at this show. Pavillion seating. Still, I saw tons of people trying to sneak into empty seats.
Ben just said it was fitting that they would be playing in Chicago last night because it was looking very likely that our senator would be the next President of the United States. Nope, it was a usual performance. |
