Just got back from the show. SO magical watching this tour take shape. It was a 1 1/2 hour set, beginning with Bixby and ending with Transatlantacism. They were perfect bookends to the set. I thought Ben's energy dragged a little about 2/3 of the way through, but they completely rocked out for the last two songs of the encore. And they seemed really tight throughout the whole night. It was clear they were really in sync, it was probably just the issue of stamina for a 90 minute set when you've been off the road for so long. Bixby is my favorite of the new stuff, and it seemed so fitting to here it as the opener in San Francisco. The look on Ben's face during this opening song was so different than the many times I'd seen before. Much more like the photo's I'd seen from the really early days. It was great to see him so excited.

Was surprised that Ben was mic'd left again. I'm sure someone else will remember the whole set list. They played Bixby, I Will Posses Your Heart, Long Division, Cath, Talking Bird&Grapevine Fires, No Sunlight from the new album. No twin sized bed. I agree with the Seattle weekly that I Will Posses Your Heart will become a show-stopping romp of Biblical proportions by the time the band wraps up support of the record, but it's just not there yet, but they're only a couple nights into the tour and these aren't stadium size crowds to feed off of.

No drums for Ben on Title & Reg - this arrangement had Jason solo on drums with Ben shaking some little brick thingie double time almost from start to finish. The arrangement for matching bands was different, extra mellow at the beginning and really rocking at the end.

Several old tunes were prety standard arrangements, New Year Photobooth, Crooked Teeth, why'd you want to live here.

Ben enthusiastically thanked the audience and said it was their best show yet. It was impressive for having not been touring for 18 months, and having so much new material that's virtually untested in front of a live audience. Can't wait to see the full deal at the Greek later this summer. Well done, boys!

I, too, attended the Fillmore show. I was planning on getting there early but my brother's flight got delayed, so we ended up arriving in towards the end of the Cave Singers' set. It was so amazing seeing the full band at a smaller venue. I saw Ben Gibbard solo at the Fillmore last year, and he just seemed like he was more excited to be in SF this time. Never before at a Death Cab show have I seen a group of people form a circle and start pseudo-freak dancing. But hey, who am I to judge? And it was kinda annoying when the girl next to me told her friend that "We Laugh Indoors" is a song off the new album. But aside from those little quirks, the show was amazing. The set list (or as much as I can remember) was:

Bixby Canyon Bridge
The New Year
Why You'd Want To Live Here
Photobooth
Long Division
Talking Bird/Grapevine Fires
(I'm not sure about the order from here on...)
I Will Follow You Into The Dark
Soul Meets Body
I Will Possess your Heart
We Laugh Indoors
A Movie Script Ending
Crooked Teeth
The Sound of Settling
Marching Bands of Manhattan
Encore: Title and Registration, 405/Your Heart is an Empty Room, Cath..., and of course, Transatlanticism.

So overall, an amazing set. I was very pleased. Hopefully they'll play Your New Twin Sized Bed when I (too) see them at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley.

Oh yeah, and it's SUPER annoying when people start clapping and whistling during Why You'd Want to Live Here when they pause before he says "someday soon..." because they think the song is over.

What is the general population of a DCFC concert? Preps? hippies? teenage girls? everyone smoking weed? I want to know what to expect.

Actually, the groups tend to be pretty diverse. With the youngest and most annoying group being the 15 year group of girls type but a lot of adults go as well. Mostly, college kids though.
Haha I doubt the smoking weed, but some did in Eugene...but thats just Eugene for you.

I was also at the show last night. I got there at about four, there was maybe five people waiting ahead of me. All four members of the group walked by the line at one time or another. I took a picture with chris, but when Ben came every one ran toward him and i think we might have scared him off a bit. He just said hello, smiled and kept on walking. Will add more details about the show in a bit.

You'll first need to upload them to a hosting site such as flickr.com or photobucket.com. You then need to use the photo button at the upper left of the message editor to add the url to your post. Would love to see a few good shots from last night. I shot video, but no stills.

Haha, yeah, right after Ben said "I'm not encouraging smoking...anything," which you can hear on the Eugene concert recording before IWFYITD, and challenged the crowd to pull out their lighters, I caught a big whiff of pot from the middle of the crowd. I think that's a first for a DCfC show, though, for me, and I've been to at least 5.

There have been progressively more annoying high school girls since I started going to their shows in 2005. The best place to see them, in my estimation, is at an outdoor festival.. I think their performance at Sasquatch 2006 might have been my favorite.

The boisterous singing along isn't so noticeable when you aren't inside
