Dead or alive. Who do you admire most?

Me -
Bob Dylan,
Jack Kerouac,
Chris Hillman (The Byrds),
John Lennon,
Brian Jones,
Julie Christie (cos I fancy her like hell in Billy Liar),
Andy Warhol.

You go...

Who actually cares about duplicate threads a year apart? I get that it's a nice opportunity to be pedantic but other than that...

Jim, is fancying someone really criteria for hero-dom with you? That's pretty weak Razzer

I think that to some degree I have compartmentalized my heroes/idols/role models/folks I admire/what-have-yous.

For instance, I'm going to school for a degree in Music Technology; I have aspirations to be an engineer/producer. Thus, I have the folks in that field who I look up to and try to emulate -- namely such folks as Geoff Emerick, Brian Eno, and our own Christopher Walla.

I'm also a songwriter and musician, and have my favorite folks to study in that respect - folks like John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Jeff Tweedy, Sufjan Stevens, Sean Lennon, Andrew Kenny, Lou Reed, Frank Black, and - again - our own Benjamin Gibbard.

On a personal level, there are certainly folks I aspire towards, but those are all people I know personally rather than see from afar. A few of my closest friends here at school; my father; another friend of mine, who consequently was also my math teacher in high school - I look up to them all for various facets of their personality that I aspire to and someday hope to match them on.

And then, of course, there's Woody Allen. Anyone who can come up with something as inspiring as "Talent is luck. The important thing in life is courage," and come up with something as hysterical as "I'm not really the heroic types; I was beaten up by Quakers" has won me over.

A sophism of madness...

Says a guy who contributes nothing to any board. And seems to think being an idiot is funny.

Well she is in my favourite film of all time. And pretty much the perfect lass in it.

Whereas you've given us all another list... This time a list of your heroes. Without even an explanation for why (except for Julie Christie - and saying you think she's hot in a movie isn't a reason). I guess the reason for pointing out duplicate threads is that the other thread a mile deep into the forum is an indication that the topic is either
a) a failure
b) now irrelevant
or c) not interesting to anyone

In saying that, I probably wouldn't have bothered pointing it out if you had bothered to make what you wrote remotely interesting. However, giving us all a list of names is not at all interesting. For fuck's sake, at least give a sentence explanation for WHY they're your hero. If anyone is that interested in reading lists of people's names they have a perfectly good phone book sitting somewhere around their house. In fact, the phone book is even more interesting because at least it provides some useful information.

Here's a for instance of what you could have done:
Jim Tunstall is my hero because one day I hope to be as useless at everything as he is.
Melanphoria is my hero because she sticks up for JimTunstall and that is something I aspire to.
Etc.

If Groovitude had have created the thread with that same post I would have been fine with it, note how what they've said has content.

And as for me contributing nothing, if you look back I have contributed things, the only time I don't contribute anything is when I'm constantly forced to deride you for being a boring idiot.

I note you've also said that Julie Christie is your favourite film of all time. Not only is this nonsensical, but it in no way, meets the criteria for 'hero status' in any way shape or form. In fact, it appears you have no idea what the definition of a hero is.

#1 In mythology and legend, a man, often of divine ancestry, who is endowed with great courage and strength, celebrated for his bold exploits, and favored by the gods.
#2 A person noted for feats of courage or nobility of purpose, especially one who has risked or sacrificed his or her life: soldiers and nurses who were heroes in an unpopular war.
#3 A person noted for special achievement in a particular field: the heroes of medicine.
#4 The principal male character in a novel, poem, or dramatic presentation.

I actually agree with you here on this mate. It was a weak post to be fair, but I am studying 'The Egaliatarian Myth and American Social Reality' and wanted some light relief.

You come across as eloquent in the above post, even when deriding me, and I can take it cos it was a bad post...BUT...you calling me gay on a message is board is worse than being "boring". It's pathetic, and if it was in real life i'd smack you mate. But over here it's fair game, well be a man and actually apologize for that. The above list isn't a real list of heroes, but a light-hearted post that's gonna go nowhere and that's no problem.

But...the last thing, the Death Cab good/great debate was the best thing on the forum for a while cos it was a debate, you took me up about the list and that's fair, but you and some idiot were being pretty pathetic by the end and just name calling, and again in real life I'd have smacked you both for being offensive.
Look the list was just to back up a point, and I honestly hope this is the end of you editing my posts to score points. You're probably a sorted lad, just cut it out and I won't post another stupid thread. Agreed?

p.s. I meant to say "in my favorite film of all-time". To clear that up.

I'm sorry for calling you gay mate, I honestly wouldn't do that in real life. You seem like a good bloke. I guess I'm just a pedantic asshole here. Kudos to you for accepting what I said.

I just thought I'd try and clean the slate. This is a bad thread and I hope it disappears, but yeah I just wanted to say it's pretty silly taking potshots at each other on here, especially since I'm 19 and really should grow up. Cheers.

Whereas blah blah blah blah blah list... This blah blah blah blah blah blah. Without even blah blah blah why (except for Julie Christie - and saying you think she's blah in a blah isn't a blah). I blah the blah for blahing out blah blahs is that the other blah a mile blah into the blah is an blah that the blah is either
a) a blah
b) now blah
or c) not blah to anyblah
d) blah blah blah

In blahing that, I probably wouldn't have blah pointing it out if you had blah to blah what you blah blah remotely blah blah blah. However, blah blah list of names is not at all blah blah blah. For fuck's blah, at least blah a sentence blah blah blah for WHY they're your blah blah. If anyblah is that blah blah in reading blahs of blah's blahs they have a perfectly blah blah book sitting someblah around their blah. In fact, the blah blah book is even more blah because at least it blah blah blah blah some useful blah blah.

Here's a for blah of what you could have blah:
Jim Tunstall is my blah blah because one blah I hope to be as blah at everyblah as he is.
Melanphoria is my blah blah blah blah because she blah blah up for JimTunstall and that is someblah I blah blah to.
Etc.

If Groovitude had have blah blah blah the blah with that same blah blah I would have been blah blah with it, note blah blah blah what they've said has blah blah.

And as for me blah blah nothing, if you look back I have blah blah blah things, the only blah blah I don't blah anything is blah blah I'm constantly blah blah to blah blah you for blah blah a boring blah blah.

I note you've also said that blah blah Christie is your favourite blah blah of all blah blah. Not only is this blah, but it in no way, meets the criteria for 'blah blah status' in any way blah or form. In fact, it appears you have no blah blah blah what the definition of a blah blah blah is.

#1 blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
#2 blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
#3 blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah
#4 blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah blah

huh?
