do you have songs that remind you of certain events in your life? are there songs you can't listen to anymore cause they bring back very painful memories? please share...

addict/stones - reminds me of growing up and how much I hated it

dashboard confessional/a mark - all I picture when I hear this is airports. when I traveled for my company I would listen to it continuously.

I used to have this problem a lot because my ex pretty much introduced me to a majority of the bands I listen to now, but I've pretty much gotten past it, kind of.

I had a girlfriend once who wouldn't listen to "Nothing Else Matters" because of an ex, and that was during my short-lived metallica kick, I was pissed.

I can't listen to:
We're on the Top of the World-Julianna Theory
Deja Vu-Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young
Both Hands, and The Diner- Ani Difranco

Hmm... this is an issue I deal with almost daily. I'm the type of person that wants to hold onto all the good times that I had when I was younger. Never wanted to have to grow up really, I still dont but dont really have a choice in the matter. Therefore comes the "soundtrack". There are a sinkfull of songs that I usually have to skip/change. I do alright with all of the past memories except the one of my dad. He and I used to do quite a bit of drugs together, until I found him in our garage with a needle stuck in his arm. That was about 8 years ago and I still find it extremely difficult to get over, I have moved on, but never really "got over". Those songs include:

Temple of the dog: Say hello to heaven
Oasis - any songs from : "what's the story"
Weezer's Blue - I try to fight through that one because it's so great.

I dunno, I have tried to forget alot about back then. The funny thing is I am moving back to Seattle where it all happened, I hope that I can maintain a strong mental state. Sorry if this has been to personal, but Robin did ask people to share... lol *cheers*

Jimmy Eat World - My Sundown, and Cautioners
The Promise Ring - Red and Blue Jeans, Is This Thing On, Strictly Television

Can't think of any others right now...Deja Entendu...But I've fought through that so many times that it takes on new meaning.

he's a sharp one...

Glenn...thank you for sharing something so personal and in turn to show my appreciation I will share a similar story.
My boyfriend's best friend was living with us when he over-dosed on meth. He taught me how to dance, so a lot of dance music reminds me of him. We listened to a lot of type o negative and other goth bands in his hospital room in hopes that he might move the left side of his body. He never did. I to this day do not listen to any of the dance music I did when he lived with us and I cry when I hear certain goth bands.

storytime!

so a couple years ago when i was really into motion city soundtrack i also really liked this one guy. i'd struggled with telling him that i liked him for so long and was frankly getting sick of it, so one long weekend while i was on vacation at the beach i wrote him a letter about it. that whole entire weekend, i could not stop singing "my favorite accident" by mcs... it was like the song was burned into my head. of course i should've known then and there that it wouldnt work out, and it didn't. and for awhile after that i couldnt listen to that song anymore because it just brought back so many memories and was really creepy because the lyrics really went along with everything that happened.

the end.

Not a whole set list, just the majority of one.

alright, i'm going to whine again!

"this modern love" by bloc party

story: whenever i listen to "this modern love" i think of this guy named will. because i am a huge dork. and also because of these two lines specifically:

"Do you wanna come over and kill some time?

...Throw your arms around me."

those lines just make me think of our little on-going joke about how when i go to tech and get tired of all the boys there, i'll be calling him asking to hang out and we'll end up making out because thats all that our boredom can lead to. its not as funny when i explain it, but i assure you it makes sense to us.

however there are things hindering this from happening, mainly the age difference and what kind of relationship i and he would want. and, i dunno, it just makes me all melodramatic knowing it could never be, but at the same time makes me want him more even though i know i shouldnt.

i'm a dork.

Hmm, the ones that stick out for me are the ones i listened to when i was 15-20 years old.

Weezer - blue album/pinkerton (drunken summer sing-a-longs with friends)

Lagwagon - Let's talk about feelings (drunken, just broke up with my girlfriend solo sing-a-longs)
