Discuss sports stuff here. As people have probably noted I like football, but I always try and watch American sports when I can...I quite like baseball.
Anyone wanna chat about their favourite sports and teams and what not do it here. |

Jim do you have a favorite baseball team?

Well last season I watched out for Minnesota Twins mainly, my only reason being that I've always wanted to go to Minnesota and Bob Dylan was born there. I love the game actually, I've tried to get into American Football and do actually quite like it, but baseball I really enjoy. You follow a team mate? You could probably tell me alot about baseball. |

San Francisco Giants forever! They have great pitching, but they need more hitting if they're going to take the west next year.
I have a question for Jimtunstall. Over here, especially in baseball and football, there's been a big uproar about the usage of performance enhancing drugs. Is that a problem in cricket, rugby, or football over there? And I have learned that even landlocked lovers yearn for the sea like navy men. |

It's an incredibly small problem over here. In athletics, yes it's a problem and in cycling, but in our domestic sports it's not. I can't remember the last footballer to be banned because of drug-related problems, I know Adrian Mutu at Chelsea took recreational drugs and was sacked and that Rio Ferdinand at Manchester United was suspended for missing a drugs test...but it's not a massive problem. In Rugby it maybe more of a problem, but cricket it's not either, not with English players anyway. |

Over here we have less of a problem with performance enhancing drugs and a much bigger problem with fun enhancing drugs. Although it was good to see america's hero phelpsy hitting the bong (and even better to see that none of his sponsors gave a shit). I bet whoever his friend was that took the photo of him lost one (if not two) of his testicles for that.

My favorite team Jim in the Boston Red Sox. Baseball is a really good sport but out the three major sports in america it is my least favorite. Football and Basketball are much more enjoyable for me to watch. I like Hockey alot too it just isnt very popular anymore.

I went to Boston last summer actually, for a late 18th birthday present/last holiday before moving to university, with my dad. It's a really nice city, I remember your basketball team was playing a series of games against LA Lakers and it was quite big news. I know Red Sox are pretty good, didn't they win in 2007? I realised that Boston seemed VERY much into it's sports. My home town is different, alot of people support Manchester United or Liverpool here, it's really stupid. It's only a few miles from each so we get lots of 'glory' supports supporting the 'best' team. I'm hardcore Bolton though, we have a modest home crowd (around 25,000 per game) but it's my hometown so I'd follow em anywhere (and do). I love football, I love the atmosphere and the journey home when we've won...magic. On America, I really liked the place but it's just not somewhere I could live, England is SO different and you can see that in our sports. |

Yeah I love the spurs alot in basketball. The red sox are really good and they did win on 07. I felt like they should of won last year also. Going to boston is actually how I got into their team. I went there in hs visiting my sister and ended up really like the team. So you are big Bolton fan. Its cool that you follow your home team so much. 25,000 it still a pretty good crowd to me. In american 25,000 for a soccer game is like alot of people. Have you been to California?

25,000 is on the low side for the Premiership here. Manchester United get 70,000 every week, while teams like Everton, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur get 40,000+ a week. The worst side is Wigan who get around 18,000 and they are right on my doorstep, Wigan/Blackburn/Burnley/Preston are all (pretty much) local derbies, although some aren't in the Premiership. It's massive in Britain, although Bolton is so close to Manchester that like I said alot of people follow United, which leads to resentment from Bolton fans. On attendence we took 5000 fans to Blackburn Rovers a week ago, Bolton fans filled a whole stand which is good to see. I've never been to California, I've been to New York and Boston which I saw on the same holiday. I liked em both, I missed home sooooooo much though. Mainly missed the rain, the accents, the football, the tea, crumpets, proper swearing... stuff you only get here y'know I watched the baseball season, I like Chicago White Sox actually and what I saw of Milwaukee Brewers. You from California geezer? |

I can't stand most sports. Basketball and Baseball are the only mainstream ones that I can sit through and watch... althuogh lately I haven't watched any basketball (I mean within the last couple of years).
For me, it's all about the table tennis and molf (mini golf). I think I just have a thing for mini sports. F'rinstance, while I don't like soccer, I like foosball... and while I don't really like hockey, I LOVE air hockey. But my two main sports would have to be double-T and molf. (ultrautsukushii) |

Yeah I am from california best state in all of USA. Which might actually not be saying that much. Both the white sox and brewers are decent teams. Brewers never have enough money to compete with the big clubs in the league so they cant retain anyone. Like Sabathia who went to the damn yankees this offseason. Man 70,000 people it just sounds like it would be an amazing atmospere at soccer games. It is one of my life goals to go to a big soccer game. I really want to be able to sing alot of the soccer songs that have at games for their teams, and just be able to see what I think real fans are.

I'm from California too, no doubt best state in the Union. But man, if your from Cali why are you going for the Red Sox? I hate the Red Sox, not as much as the dodgers, but i still hate them. And Jimtunstall, have you ever been involved in a good old soccer riot? And I have learned that even landlocked lovers yearn for the sea like navy men. |
