How on Earth do you concentrate on singing and lyrics and such, all the while keeping time with whatever instrument you're playing? Not only that, but some performers start adlibbing as well. I just can't grasp it, even with the simplest melodies.

Are you just now learning how to play? I had that same problem, I think everyone does in the beginning. All I can say is to keep practicing nite and day. I started out with cover songs like green day and stp nirvana etc... since I knew the chords and I knew the vocal structure. I dunno man. Good luck.

ya, I agree with Glenn, just practice.. get good at one, so you can do it without thinking.. sing while you're in the shower, and play guitar when you're watching tv.. when one becomes automatic, you'll be able to focus more on the other.

im having the same problem. I am pretty good at playing, but singing is tough if I want to keep the same strumming pattern. But, I just started in December. Iam getting better though.

i still have troulbe. but im still young also. good practice song (even though its lame)
seven nation army

the rhythm has a little syncopation but its fairly easy to sing along while playing it and it gets you used to two different rhythms.
