Alot of folks in the northwest are, and the music industry is generally more liberal. But that is only a generalization and there are always exceptions.

But it would be interesting to know.

the one thing that shocked me when I found out about it, is that popular vote has no bearing on who gets elected (it supposedly influences the electoral vote, but gimme a break)

Basically primary elections are about choosing who will become the party's nominee for President. Each of the two parties (Democrat and Republican) have a contest in each of the fifty states and three american territories. To keep it as simple as possible, the winner of the most number of votes in each state is generally declared the winner. (There's a complicated process secondary to this involving delegates, which I can explain if you wish )

Super Tuesday was the day that 19 Republican races and 22 Democratic races are decided (41 out of a total of 106). Often the nomiees are chosen because of the results announced on that day. On the Democratic side it is so close they have to have more primaries to determine the winner

What confuses me about the whole thing is that if a Republican gets 50% or more in a state, they automatically get all of the electoral votes. Yet, if a Democrat gets 50% or more, the electoral votes are split accordingly to each party.

Different rules for the two different parties. Even more complicated not all Republican primaries are 'winner takes all' as Mary has indicated, one notable example being California.

There are so many problems with the way we go about electing our president, the electoral college being one of them.

I heard today that, despite not being until May 20th, Oregon's primary might actually mean something this year, since the Democrats are so close. I don't know that this is actually true. It's possible the local news people were just trying to make themselves/their viewers feel important.

Dude it will be. The democratic race isn't getting any clearer, so Oregon could and I think will play a role in the election for once.

Yeah the whole system is outdated and messed. I.E. Bush in Flordia....GAH.

Either Clinton will win on March 4 (Ohio and Texas) or it will go to early June in my opinion. If Obama wins, it won't be quick.

It's too bad I can't vote in the primary then. Which is a load of crap. I'll be voting in the general election, I should get a say in who my choice will be.
I think McCain is going to be president, but I hope I'm wrong.
