Hey, so the boards are rather slow and clogged with dramatic crap right now, so why don't we use this space to talk about new and upcoming releases we are psyched about. LET'S TALK ABOUT MUSIC! Novel, huh? Summer anthems, potential album of the years, stuff you're looking forward
to. Ideally post links to places we can listen
to a free track or two..

Right now...
I really am digging the new Coldplay, as not-indie as that might make me. (You guys can figure out how to listen to it if you are interested.) But I really find this record to be much more entertaining to listen to than X&Y and it doesn't seem to have the weak spots that "A Rush of Blood..." had. Strawberry Swing is an amazing song, maybe my fav on the album. And Violet Hill keeps growing on me.

I have been jamming a fair bit to Crystal Castles.

The new weezer's pretty neat too.
Oh, and this might be a controversial position, but I actually like Lupe Fiasco, I realized. Would have never thought. His songs definitely have more pop sensibility and less ignorance that a lot of radio rap for sure.

As for upcoming discs,

I hope some of you all have heard of Natalie Portman's Shaved Head. They are a great electro-pop-rock band from Seattle. Really down-to-earth guys (I have met them)... and put on a live show to dance your ass off to. One of the most fun concerts I've been to. Kind of like MGMT and other dance-rock bands out there now...Their CD comes out July 15. Last FM
MYSPACE!

Looking forward to the new CSS, too. NPSH is opening for them, incidentally. I think that one comes out a week later, July 22... TheirSPACE
Lovefoxxx= super hawttie

WOO! LET's DANCE!

Agreed, new Coldplay is a big step up. I was actually interested enough to listen to the new album several hundred times on repeat. I never used to be able to listen to that much Coldplay in a row before this release. And yes, Strawberry Swing is a great song. I love a lot of songs on the album, actually.

Crystal Castles = win as well.

And I like the sound of Natalie Portman's Shaved Head.

I'm actually not looking forward to too many releases in the near near future at all. Sigur Ros pretty much made my life.

Glad you agree about Viva La Vida and its great songs.

This topic ain't getting too much love. Does anyone else here dig Architecture in Helsinki? I know it's old, but In Case We Die is a great album.

PS Glad to hear the positive feedback on NPSH. I think they might become a moderately big thing. They kind of are in Seattle already and now their cd is about to come out. I am super excited for their show/cd release party

Mmm, when things become a big thing it isn't too great though. Well, great for the band.
But take Metro Station.
If I hear Shake It one more time, I'm going to cut somebody's head off. That just blew up in everyone's faces; as soon as their cd came out POW instant big thing with the teenie clans.
And I used to adore that song, before I had to deal with it popping up everywhere and becoming overused. Now it's on a So You Think You Can Dance advertisement. That is the last place you want to end up.

is it cuz of the ghetto-speak in the title? or is this just a dull topic?

Well, it's sorta like the Music I Suggest thread... Also, this forum is never extremely busy.

But I see the Music I Suggest thread as James' personal ego-trip... Is that now how it is? Is it more like "Music YOU Suggest" these days?

I like this thread. It's like an all-in-one summer majiggy

I think the Hold Steady is nice for summer, especially July. Check out the song "Sequestered in Memphis."
So far, I think the best song of 2008 is Sun Kil Moon's "Lost Verses"--and I'd be shocked if someone releases a song that would be good enough to change my mind on that.

Yeah I really wanna get that Sun Kil Moon. It is a pretty sweet song, though I need to listen to it a few more times.

Everyone seems pretty big on the Hold Steady (I've heard them called "the best band in America" multiple times I feel like). But alas, still haven't heard more than a song or two in passing of theirs.

all-in-one summer majiggy is a good way of putting it. i mostly created it just because it seemed like everywhere else the topics were just composed of personal feuds and board drama, which i don't think is what anyone's really here for.

congrats on the mod nod justin, by the way!
