I don't think this disaster has really been discussed on the forums. I personally think this is an administrational disaster as well as a natural one. The fact that George Bush has clearly been staying away from the situation and appearing in the media daily looking as ignorant as ever is just a slap in the face to the people of New Orleans and all areas hit by the hurricane. I also think that everyone should do anything they can as far as donations or just showing support for these people. Also if anyone who reads this could please post links to legitimate places to donate to that would be great. Also if death cab could put a link to the red cross or something on their home page that would probably help these people greatly.
I still don't care about the damage Katrina has caused. I tried to care. I sat at the table last week and put significant effort into feeling something as I was reading the paper, but I just don't give a shit. I don't even feel bad about not caring anymore.
im from australia, so it doesnt really affect me (other than our fuel prices soaring). but whats the deal? a disaster such as this should unite those affected, instead of the "rape and pillage" lifestyle some of the residents have adopted. Sure there was a bit of looting in the tsunami disaster in indonesia, but that was mostly food stolen so people could survive, whats happening in new orleans is ridiculous
james, i'm with you. and sparkle, you sicken me. you'd care if someone in your family was chest high in water, trapped in an attic screaming for help for four days before they finally lost the will to live and drowned. you'd care if your friend got raped in front of hundreds of people in a public bathroom because the city had to evacuate the prisons, and put convicts into the superdome unsupervised with the rest of the citizens. and maybe, just maybe you'd care if the store that you had worked your entire life for was destroyed and looted by assholes who took advantage of a situation to get themselves a shiny new televsion (which they couldn't even use) and you were left with nothing - no home, no job, no money, no cute little fendi purse... nothing. you'd care if a place you called home your whole life was suddenly gone, destroyed, and littered with the decaying bodies of your friends and neighbors. if you don't care, you have absolutely no soul.
now i'm not saying you need to run out and join the red cross - you don't need to do anything to care. but saying you don't give a shit is so far beyond ignorant i can't even put it into words.

Nicely stated! I appluad you! You dont have to feel emotional (like go crying or something) about it, but you have to at least feel a little sad for the people who've lost their loved ones.

I think you care, if someone rewound time and approached you and said, "you have the power to stop Hurricane Katrina in its tracks, would you like to do that?" I think you would. You wouldn't just shrug. Right?

higherness you asshole. I thought you cared! you fucking ..haha. anyway thelottery I completely agree that the statement was ignorant. I myself will definately cherish my hello kitty purse more now that I've seen what is unfolding in new orleans.
We are collecting things like clothes, food, toys and such at my school for those poor people. It's really sad. They showed this one lady who just broke down when she went back to see what was left of her house. It was really sad.
