i finally found a couple of guys wanted to start a band. its nothing like death cab, but check it out let me know what u think. in the video we play REMs wolves lower, and Trex's 20th century boy. i personally like the 2nd song better. the vocals are really rough (we dont have a PA and the singer isnt a pro). were just working on covers kuz we have a our first show in a week and weve only had two practices so far :X its gonna be legendary!

heres a video of my old band. the lead singer is the one who got me into death cab, so u can definitely hear the influence.

Your old band was so much better... it was so much tighter. Are you still with them?

So I guess your old band didn't work out? The time that was put into it shows and I think it's a waste to give up on that for some cover band.

I think what dave is saying is that they've only been practicing for a little bit and this band is probably a lot better at this point than his last band was at the same point. Someone needs to teach that guy how to sing though.

lol i know. he has a lot of trouble hitting the high notes. but if he stays w/ in his range it sounds pretty good. were not a cover band, we had like a week to get ready for our first gig so we picked a few covers. we never played that coffeehouse tho, they said we were too "rocky" whatever that means. but we do have our next first gig this friday at an actual college rock show. so we should fit in fine. the coffee house we didnt get to play was open to anyone like dancers, singers, bands, etc. apparently were one of the few up beat bands,so mayb ppl will like us.

well try to make some better videos next time.

and yes thats exatly what im trying to get at.

actually, i asked my girlfriend if she wanted to play bass in my old band. we taught her how to play bass for our set one week before we played infront of like 400 filipino people (at a filipino club event at college). they really didnt get into it, they like more rnb/pop. but im pretty sure my new band rocks a lot better than my old band. i felt like my old band kinda bored people.

i was wondering if death cab fans would like my old band better :P its more mellow/emotional/lyric focused than the new band. which is more death caby.

I think something that was cool about your old band is that there was a hint of RnB in it and you could sense it-- which was a cool thing about it. The songs weren't too difficult and there wasn't any getting in the way of one another.

The new band sounds a lot like a messy garage band type of thing. Everyone is trying too hard to do crazy stuff with their instruments and it just doesn't want to work. I like technical stuff on instruments, but there are times when it's better to be tasteful about it (but it was a practice). Let us know when you get some videos of some originals! I think it would be best to stay in your pockets for performances though.

i feel u.

the reason the old band broke up was cause the lead singer graduated and got a job working for the navy. my girlfriend on bass had a busy semester coming up and so did i and i got a part time job too.

heres another song by the old band. its crappy quality, but i feel like its one of our more death cabby songs.

You seem like a decent drummer, the problem is not with you, you deserve a better band. The people you're working with just don't even come off as musicians, or sound good enough to ever be taken seriously. Your current band is going to need a lot of work, or you should just ditch them because that lead guy is horrible.

im always keeping my eye on the "open door".... get it!?! were barely a band, we havent played a show yet, havent left the basement. ive been looking out for people who want to start something new, but these guys are the only ones ive found. the only music scene around my town is an underground hardcore/drone death metal scene. not really my thing.

I remember my days of looking around for people to play with. I was pretty active in looking and I still couldn't find people-- there were a lot of really two bit guys who I'd run into constantly. I'd either get flakes or guys who were taking themselves too seriously considering what they had. If I were you I'd just be very careful when you're looking for people, you can run into some weird situations.

As a side note, I lived in a pretty safe area of Southern California and I still ran into a lot of drugs and the like. For someone in their late teens who was trying to get through college and get a life that wasn't my scene. So I pretty much hung in the towel for that stuff before it ever really began. I say it's hard to find good people who are also good musicians, so when you've got them it's best to hold on to them.

It's too bad your friend left, because I think you had some good music going.
