What do young people predominantly listen to in South Africa? Is it somewhat obscure to foreigners, or is it typical pop rubbish like everyone else? If it's the former, some links would be appreciated.

Those links wouldn't let me listen unless I swam over to Sth Africa, so I went to myspace and found the links for others just in case they want to listen to south africa as well. To answer your earlier question, I don't think there has ever been another saffer on these boards, well at least no one who has admitted it.

Cassette don't really do much for me, they seem like a solid Rock band, but a bit bland and unimaginative.

Prime Circle sound very much like their 'influences' section which is good if you like any of their influences, I don't think I do though. Also, they only have 30 second clips on their myspace page... what the fuck is with that? Who's going to steal music from myspace? The sound quality is absolute balls.

WONDERboom sound a bit like 'The Music', they might be good live, but the two songs on their myspace don't really impress me greatly.

aKING...jesus, that guy has a deep voice. If I was going to compare them to a band from Australia it would be Something for Kate but I don't know if I'm really stretching things, I probably am. I'm not really sure I like it per se, but it's definitely the most listenable of the 4 you've suggested. A question, in that 'in the twilight' song is he saying "who fucked my leg?"? "my sex is loaded"?

What are your favourite non-south african bands (other than DCFC of course) so I can decide if you just don't have very good taste. I don't mean to offend, but I'm so far unimpressed by south african music from what you have offered up so far.

Whenever I think of South Africa, I think of this pedicurist I had one time from there. She was really really funny. She was ballerina. I asked her if she was from Australia and she got a lil offended. And then she told me some sweet-ass stories about South Africa. Good times, good times.

That's not surprising that she got offended, every South African I know is very proud of their country. The women there are amazingly hot for the most part. So they're right to be pleased with themselves.
