I like the 30 right now Justin. Umm mostly because it has much better games out for it right now. It is cheaper but the ps3 has blue ray so you can watch high def movies. It also has free online gaming. The ps3 is supposed to get good games but each new game that comes out for it falls on it's face.

I'm proposing a swift and orderly change

They both suck... Wii wins hands down... as far as Blu-ray goes, gimme a break! Soon enough, once the hype goes down, blu-ray and HD-DVD players will be selling for 30 bucks a pop at walmart... plus, getting a system for just one game is a waste...
the wii is the best system, no contest...

Justin...go with the 360. Halo is enough by itself. You got Call of Duty 4, Rock Band, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, etc (that's just this fall). There are so many great games.

I went on a pretty big spending spree earlier this week and got Call of Duty 4 and Rock Band. COD is a blast online, even though I've barely played it (played the beta relentlessly though). Rock Band is possibly the most addicting game ever. It's great to play with friends, or just by yourself, which is what I usually do.

Oh, and plus - then we can play on Live together! $50 for 13 months, which is like $3 or $4 a month. It's much more than playing online, too. Marketplace, which has videos, demos, movies, Arcade games, new content for games, etc. It's well worth it.

My gamer friend is having a Rock Band party next Saturday. I don't really know what to expect.

I'm not a big video game person but I love me some Halo. I haven't played the 3rd yet.

Rock Band looks like it might be quite fun... the songs aren't all shit either which really surprised me. Not worth getting a PS3 or Xbox 360 for though.

Yeah, it's a great party game. Some great songs too - Creep (Radiohead), Maps (Yeah Yeah Yeahs), Reptillia (Strokes) to name a few.

If you think about it, it's just another first person shooter. But if you think of the FPSs before it, it seems pretty revolutionary. It basically made the control scheme that most other games have right now, Halo 2 made Xbox Live extremely popular, plus the story and level design and...all that stuff.

Now this is what I don't get. When people get into video games real hardcore and treat them like an art, it really perplexes me. "The history of video games" and all that... Talking about how revolutionary Halo is (I'm not stereotyping you Brian, you're not necessarily a big time gamer) or reading video game magazines. It's just another way to kill time but there's nothing really fulfilling or productive about it. To me it's like drug enthusiasts who buy clothes and posters with pot leafs all over them and read High Times and have a culture that revolves around getting stoned. I like playing Halo cause it's straightforward and just has the fundamentals that make a game like that fun. As for the story... well it's pretty hackneyed. "Aliens attack! You gotta kill all of them" that's the gist right?
Sorry if that was a bit of a rant... I just don't get the hype over video games in general.

Well, just as a book or an album, etc. can take you away from reality to another world, so can games. Games though put you in the driver's seat. They allow you to control what will happen next. I believe that one day, graphics will be good enough to look like live action, and we will basically be able to control TV (if we want). Although I LOVE video games, I don't let them take over my life. Sometimes, the last thing I want to do is play games. Either way, a game should stay just that. It gets weird when people wear clothes of the game, have posters, and even read the magazines (except to see when a sequel is coming out.... like you don't do that with a music magazine to see when a new album is coming out)
Hype for anything is bad, but a little bit of gaming never hurt anyone.

P.S. As far as HALO goes, it may be revolutionary, but that never sways me to play something. Besides, I never like shooters...

i think if someone loves gaming and has posters and clothes and reads magazines then its great that they've found something that they enjoy that much and are passionate about and they should continue.

I completely agree with all you guys. It's really just a way to kill time. When you talk about how you don't take anything away from it, why do we watch tv? Why do we watch movies? I don't think we really get anything out of them other than enjoyment. So there are a bunch of things that we do just to kill time, and video games is one of them.
