Hi, i'm a french guy who've discovered Death cab for cutie a few months ago. Just a few months ? Yes, the fact is that this band isn't very well known here, even for and indie band. Though cd's by other great bands like Pinback or Modest mouse are well distributed here, this is not the case of DCFC, and i surely regret it. On the other hand, Postal service is a little much popular.

Anyway, i just wanted to say that the reason why DCFC has becoming one my favourite band, is that Ben Gibbard is not only one of the best songwriters alive : he's perhaps the only one who can write love songs without never sounding cliche (not sure for that word, in french here), cheesy, or boring.

Can't wait for the next album, which i'll surely have on october...cause of the Transatlantic shipping time !

Nice to meet you Smiler

P.S. : Sorry for my approximative english Wink

Yes, it's "bienvenuE", but hey, i don't care because i really appreciate these nice efforts you're making (i'm pretty sure having myself made several errors...). To answer your question, I used to live in Lille, in the north of France, near belgium ; but since three years now, i live in Rennes (west of France).

Oh, by the way, there's some french bands here that really deserve to be famous, other in fact that Phoenix or Air. For example, why should'nt you go on this site : "www.exsonvaldes.net", and listen to the track "Going away"? Curious to know what you might think of it. Let me know Wink.

If you love that, you can also try "Neon Golden" by "Notwist" (a german band, but no worry, they sing in english, like exsonvaldes), or "Disaffected" by "Piano Magic". Wink

yes, it's bienvenue. adjectives-wise, bienvenu is 'welcomed' for a guy, and bienvenue is also 'welcomed', but for a girl.

quand j'etais a tours en juillet, les seuls choses que j'ai entendu sur la radio etaient 'usher' et 'kyo'. ils mettaient usher chaque 15 minutes.

Yes, radio really sucks here. I never listen to it, or, actually, not for music. And there isn't much good french bands, i recognize. When, i was a child, my father used to say to me : "Son, french rock doesn't exists !". He's right Cool . Anyone has listened exsonvaldes (see my message)? French bands can be good...when they sing in english ; can't figure out why.

I know what you mean. I'm from australia and so i only really discovered Death Cab for myself a couple of months ago when by brother bought and recommended it to me. But the episode of the OC with the Death Cab concert was on tv this week so maybe their popularity will pick up now. I haven't even heard of Pinback but i have heard of modest mouse and postal service, anyway my point is that indie bands are just starting to get popular over here so i'm in the same boat.

the music scene over here at the moment involves a lot of rnb and stuff like that. it's a little depressing cause all the music sort of sounds the same which is why i like death cab and the killers and dashboard confessional - they're all so different to the pop songs.

oh and i completely agree with teh point about the love songs and them not being cliches. oh and i recommend thrice and athlete as well!
