To be honest, one of, if not the highlight of my trip was taking the ferry to Bainbridge Island for dinner. If you can, try and time it so you're coming back at sunset--probably the most beautiful sight I have ever seen. Also, the Island seems to have a ridiculous amount of good-looking, nice waitresses. Always a bonus.
Other than that, I recommend the Space Needle, Sonic Boom Records (see if there is a free in-store while you're there), maybe stop by KEXP studios. I dunno, that's all I got, I'm sure someone like fadedmagic or James or anyone who lives there or goes there often will have more. ----------------- Unless otherwise stated, opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect the opinion of any organization of which I am a member. |

Managed to miss the Space Needle when I went. I went to the Cha Cha, Mamas Bitchin' Burrito Kitchen, Showbox, Sit 'n Spin (which I think is now shut) a failed attempt to visit Barsuk HQ, stayed at The Green Tortoise once - and a nice guest house second time around, Pike Street Market and other stuff. Best thing was the people I was with, worst thing was the weather was just like Manchester.
It has pissed it down both times I was there. Bring a brolly. |

hey, well the Fremont location of Sonic Boom apparently went out of business, which sucks. I like Easy Street Records a lot and there are in stores there all the time. I agree with the ferry idea. it is lovely and i haven't been for a while. but try to get out on the water if you can. I'd try to catch a concert. Not sure what's going on, but I'd check The Moore Theatre, The Paramount, Showbox, Neumos, Chop Suey, El Corazon, and maybe I'm missing a couple, but those are all good places. (I haven't been to El Corazon, but I hear it is cool.) Definitely go to a place called Red Mill Burgers and order a double bacon deluxe with cheese. If its not the most kickass burger you've ever had, let me know. I've yet to meet someone who hasn't thought so. go when you're hungry though. the u-district, ballard, and fremont are all pretty cool areas to explore after you've exhausted downtown (pike place market, waterfront, ferry terminal). safeco field is a pretty sweet place to go catch a ballgame on a warm evening, if you are into that at all. I think mikemccusker meant "Bimbo's Bitchin' Burito Kitchen" which is apparently some kind of uber hip pseudo mexican place in capital hill. you could check that out too. broadway is good to check out..that's in capital hill. i'll try to think of more stuff. if you have any specific questions, post em.. ____________________________________________________________ If it turns out that there is a God, I don't think that he's evil. ps the concerns about rain are valid, but generally in the summer it is beautiful and sunny. still a jacket would be a good idea.

This is awesome! Seattle band Throw Me The Statue, performing aboard the Bainbridge ferry. Gives you an idea of what it is like and lets you hear an up and coming Seattle band. These guys are great and so is the ferry. ____________________________________________________________ If it turns out that there is a God, I don't think that he's evil. Honestly the main things I do there are buy guitars and gear, shop at record stores, clothes, shoes, and hang out and eat. I can't really think of too much more to do haha. I'd check out The Trading Musician in the U-district, it has a ton of amazing vintage guitars and random stuff, there's always something there if you're into that kind of thing, also check out Emerald City Guitars down on like 1st and washington near the ports, they're really nice people and I believe that's where Death Cab bought some gear also john roderick used to work there. But ya, I'm a gear nerd so I can't not go to these places. I also like to check out I think it's pine and 3rd, there's a few stores on a hill, one is a comic book/record store that I think now might just be a record store, but has some cool local music sometimes and also had some random graphic novels and stuff before. I also like the shoe shop next door, but you probably won't be shopping too much on this trip.
The space needle was pretty cool because you're really high up and get to see things from high up, that's about it. The experience music thing was kinda cool, I think the best part was the guitar collection, there's also this little area that kinda shows off memorabilia from pacific northwest bands, and it had some neat stuff, but the only thing on death cab and modest mouse was this little video playing and they really need to update that because it's kind of pathetic. There's also a huge 2 story sculpture of guitars which was kind of a waste, and also most were shitty. The thing is, when you pay for the experience music thing, you also get admission to the science fiction museum, which is probably the coolest thing and I totally suggest going to it because I know you're a comic book guy. It's kinda small but there's a ray gun collection, if that's not enough to make you go I dunno what is. I kinda found sonic boom to be just like any other record store, couple of hipsters, couple of records. I'd suggest you look into finding a show or two to go to while you're in seattle because that will probably be the highlight. --------------------------------------------------- Big fish eat the little ones |

fadedmagic, the Ballard and Capitol Hill locations of Sonic Boom are still open though right?
Also, the science fiction museum didn't cross my mind at all, but James is right. That's totally up you alley, Kyle. History on where it started, original costumes/models, the whole shebang. ----------------- Unless otherwise stated, opinions expressed are my own and do not reflect the opinion of any organization of which I am a member. |

You want to go to Kerry Park, Kyle. Here's a link showing exactly where it is and here's a picture I took last night. I have some friends visiting from Holland and we went here about 10:00 last night. Best view of downtown Seattle anywhere. You can also see the ferry boats out on the harbor coming in to Seattle and it's just a great place to go take pictures and hang out. Go at night.

Kyle, I'd love to see/meet you while you're here. If you want you can stop by KEXP while I'm there and you can look around and if there's an in-studio you want to see you could watch.
I have a hard time thinking of fun things to do in Seattle to see the city when people ask. I've always liked the Pike Place Market and the whole Capitol Hill neighborhood. Oh and the ferries ARE really nice. And cheap! |
