I agree with PSDCFC that it's very rock and roll. I disagree with PSDCFC because that's not a good thing. With all due respect to the guys...they aren't rock and roll. Also I find it strange that Ben would attempt to look rock and roll because he made this huge deal in an Under the Radar interview about how he used to love bands that look like everyday people and respected them for that--he cited Built to Spill. He claimed that bands that go for the rockstar image are harder to connect to because, well, they're cooler than you and you would never see one of them on the street--he cited Interpol. I don't know, he can look however he'd like. But if I were him I'd cut the hair, shave the chops, and replace his space goggle with his old 50's-style ones. But it's his body.

Come on, mutton chops aren't very rock n' roll. especially not when you are sporting glasses and thrift store shirts. He looks like someone from my old high school class - a nice guy, a total nerd and very easy to connect to.

And yes it is his body and it's just facial hair. It's not gonna change their image as a band. Even though they look ridiculous.

dude i have had long hair and mutton chops and not a single person ever thought i was in a rock and roll band. maybe it's because i'm hideously ugly, or maybe the connection just isn't there. and in that interview when Ben mentions "everyday looking people" I don't think there is any specification of a style of haircut or facial hair. I think the point he was getting across was the difference between dressing like you're David Bowie and donning a plaid shirt with slacks (like Ben loves to do every morning). Now maybe if he were wearing face paint and bowties and skin tight suit vests, we'd have something to worry about.

fair enough. maybe i just got attached to that image and this new one hasn't sunk in. wasn't attacking him, just sayin, nomesayin? i wasn't trying to say he's done an evil deed and flipped 180 on his image or anything. i just prefer the older look- his brown pants, dress shirts with the rolled up sleeves, and brown glasses. i saw something about myself in that image, i think it matched the music and the sentiment that death cab strives for, at least for me. plus i just really liked those glasses--James Mendenhall of the Prom used to/still does wear a pair just like them and they remind me of Woody Allen...i dunno. yet, i also realize that it's highly unreasonable to expect someone to look exactly the same throughout their life.

I think this would be a good time to stay on topic. There's a great performance here and you guys are talking about Ben's current style, in like, essay form. By all means argue about how cute you think he is with or without them, just make a separate thread.

Might as well just rename this one hahaha.
