Hard to find? You can still stream the audio or video at KCRW's website, and it's trivial (and free) to record streaming audio.
Would people be interested in having these tracks? I could upload the set somewhere (audio only). EDIT: No reason not to make them available, I suppose: URL DELETED This message has been edited. Last edited by: DCFC Board Admin, |

John, I enjoyed downloading and listening to this. What software do you use to record streaming audio? I've always found it a bit baffling. And the hardest part is yet to come |

I use Audacity, which is an entirely free (and open-source, in case that matters to anyone out there) audio recorder and editor. It's available at http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. I find it to be very easy to use. To record something like this, you need to change the recording device in the preferences menu to something like "Rec. Playback" or "Sound Card." Unfortunately, not everyone has that option available; most newer computers can record straight off the sound card, but some can't, and the older it is the less likely it is. If you can't, then get an audio extension cable with two male ends (like this, but shorter: http://tiny.cc/audiocable), plug one side into the headphone jack and the other into the microphone jack, and set the device to "line in." Then, just hit record and let the stream play. The quality of the sound will be essentially the same as the quality of the original stream. |

This is fantastic! Thank you so much.
I'm downloading both audio and video. _____________________ Drive Well Sleep Carefully |

too bad ben screws up the big moment in "this place is a prison" by not getting to the drumset fast enough. lolll. overall a good performance with just a few forgivable hiccups here and there.

John, I've got the Audacity software installed and the Lame plug-in to encode to MP3. I've made my first audio stream recording. Sound quality is not an issue. The playback volume is low though, and I've got my speaker settings turned up to max. Any suggestions? And the hardest part is yet to come |

Sorry, I didn't check the boards much yesterday.
In case you didn't figure it out, recording volume is controlled (in the scheme I described above) by speaker volume, Audacity's recording volume, and potentially the overall line-in volume. Audacity's recording volume is controlled by a slider bar at the top of the screen, how the other two are controlled depends on your operating system. After you've recorded, if it needs to be louder, highlight everything and then choose Amplify from the Effect menu. You'll want the New Peak Amplitude (dB) to be -0.1 or -0.2, probably. I should've mentioned, too - the ideal volume to record at is fairly loud but without any clipping, which is what happens when the input overwhelms the recording system. The waves you see while recording should approach but not quite reach the maximum of the chart (if it goes over, there will be a vertical red bar next to the microphone level monitor at the top). |

I found that changing my input to stereo mix did the trick for me.

Looks like the URL for this was removed, anyone know where it might be hiding?

Hello, DCFC Board Admin,
Why did you remove the link to where I uploaded them? I'm not upset, just curious. Thanks, John EDIT: Seamus76, send me a personal message if you'd like the link. |
